You'd think it would nice, to live in a town, that has a chocolate factory, with the smell of coco brought to you on the wind...., but, It isn’t...., the smell of the raw materials for making chocolate, including coco and the sugar..., stink..., they do not smell very pleasant at all...
Today the wind was in the right direction to bring the smell to our part of town, but fortunately not for very long...
I used to live in a town that had a sugar processing plant, and a brewery..., neither of these are particularly pleasant smells either.
Have you ever come across something that should smell lovely, but actually doesn’t... ?

Even a smell you love gets old if you have to smell it all the time!

@dianadee I like cake but if I worked in a bakery and had it right there every day I'd get tired of it.

My friends mother used to work in a chocolate factory and she said that after awhile the smell would make her nauseous. Guess that's probably true about anything if exposed to it for long periods of time

You could be right... but I also think it depends on how pungent the smell is ... and how thick it is in the air... I worked in a bakery at one time... but never got tired of the smell of fresh bread...

When we lived in Kansas the smell of feed lots and butchering cattle places made it smell so bad we had to turn on our air conditioning and close the windows. I know, that stuff is supposed to smell bad but this was obscene. The wineries around us when we visit don't smell that good in the cellars but at least its not on the air heading for our house.

@sueznewz2 When I first moved to one of those towns I had the kids in the car, hubby went ahead to get the house set up. I was following a truck full of cattle, I had to roll up my windows and turn on the air in the car because it smelled so bad. The truck took a turn and disappeared and I sighed with relief opened the windows and the stink was still awful. The air was heavy because of some storms and the smell was from the town we were moving too. When we got to our house hubby had to unload and the kids and I stayed in the air conditioned home so we didn't have to smell that awful stench any more. Eventually we got used to it but because of the rain that day it made it worse. I am very happy to live now where there are no slaughter houses.

that's true... it's not really.... I lived in a farming area... and they used to spread manure on the fields ... somedays with the sugar factory, the brewery and the manure spreading on the fields, the air was horrid... fortunately that did not happen very often....

Our first home in the country was near a pig farm - we didn't know it was there! The smell was terrible if the wind blew from that direction. We moved eventually.

@sueznewz2 I wouldn't want to live close to one of them. It's bad enough driving by them, I can't imagine living by them.
