This must probably be the most awful situation most of the couples would face in the 21st century.
Some stupid pointless rules made by the society..
Cast, creed & age tops the list.
When two people are in love and want to spend a Life together, but if there is something different in them, then this is were the concern starts.
Inter cast? Age difference? High cast? Low cast? Different states?
What will people think?
What the heck man. This is so pathetic & juvenile.
So the adage 'love unconditionally' has some meaning at all? After you putting so many stupid conditions to it.
That is why no kids want to open up to their parents these days.
That's why relationships are facing so many problems these days.
I do not blame the parents either, they will what the best for their kids, but then one should give a thought about it. For a instance, let the society say what it wants.
Step out and break the trend once, give it a try, discuss with your kids about life wisely.
See if both of you can make things better, I am sure you will come out with flying colors.
Kids should listen to their parents as well.
Both should bridge the gap , because one hand cant just clap.

I do not give a damn about the society!!Here in India, everything is wrong if your own child is not doing it!! Once your own child does that, then it is followed by the cliched sentence :- "The society is advancing. Everyone does this now".
I hate all the society norms. I hate double standards of this so-called society

@mindthoughts Very true man!! I mean why is everyone so obsessed about what others will think!! No one is ready to stand up to their own thinking!!
No one wants to take a step forward first!! Everyone is so used to being a follower here that it just irritates me!!

haha, I agree on that point to some extent! Eg. parsis do not let others in...that is why their community is at a risk to extinct I think..many more examples u might know being an Indian. People are more worried about what other people will think..that is so absurd.

Talk of people and what they think of others,i have seen marriages break because women listened to their fellow women instead taking their family as it is

I agree, parents and children do need to talk and bridge the communication gap.

In the past it was actually more overt and clear-cut. The problems of caste was there to a greater degree even then now in the 21 century, tho still existing in some countries such as yours. In my country, status and income level does play a part but there is much more freedom if one is able to break out with defiance. However, it is not uncommon for someone who is wealthy to lose inheritance or threat thereof if they should marry beneath their station.
It has been mentioned by others from different countries that youths are not concerned with marriage but choose to live together. It is the same in the U.S. Those that do marry seem to be waiting until older or after having lived together for some time.
It appears that your country may still be experiencing more problem for couples. As for caste, or status, that will always exist, has from the beginning of time.
