Full Moon Myths

Tomorrow, November 25th, is the full moon.
For the native Americans, the November moon is called "the beaver moon".
In the past, this was the time they had to set beaver traps, to collect warm furs for the winter.
There are many theories about the impacts of the Moon on humans and animals.
Some people believe that the full moon increases crime rates.
Others, fear that some animals, especially dogs and wolves, become more aggressive.
Do not worry, there is no scientific evidence that the full moon triggers strange behavior.
What about you? Does the full moon affect your mood?
I know that I never sleep well when there is a full moon.

lol There may not be scientific evidence but let me tell you, everyone at the nursing home where my mother is notices the difference in some of the patients.

@LadyDuck Most of the time no one realizes it is a full mood until the odd behavior starts.

@BelleStarr In fact, when I was unable to sleep last night, I went out of the bed and looking outside I noticed the big bright moon in the sky.

@LadyDuck I have never linked weird behavior from people on full moon nights but as usual MyLot friends have given me something new to think about, and observe. I think I've just missed the full moon this month so now I must wait patiently for the next.

The full moon makes the nighttime lighter, just get dark out drapes. Problem solved. I like the big ole moon, since I can see it from my living room window. Pretty.

@ElizabethWallace I always keep the bedroom dark, I cannot sleep if I see the light and I remember that I read somewhere that it's much better for our brain, it rests more in the dark.

I do see that some high strung people do tend to be a bit more hyper during a full moon, and I find that the days afterwards they seem to be on a down swing from so much activity. I found the same to be true with seniors when I worked in a nursing home and with young children in general. Sometimes I have difficulty sleeping around a full moon, and for no good reason, so I blame it on the full moon as my inability to settle.

Actually friend of mine works in a psychiatrical home, she says the patients have more episodes during the full moon than normal.

@LadyDuck I think the researches so far in this area is limited. e.g. the research around psychiatric are limited to number of people checking into wards between 6:00pm - 6:00am over a number of years. When there's no meaningful statistical difference, they just count that as no proof. It's by no means exhaustive research.
Scientists are not meant to make sweeping generalisations.. but unfortunately they do.

I hurt my back once the night of a full moon. It was an eclipse of the moon as well. The nurses at the hospital were run off their feet with increased numbers of mentally ill patients. They said, despite what the research says, that the emergency department was always much busier on the night of the full moon. Oh, I've just read the &BelleStarr says the same!

@hereandthere I try not to be around people if I don't have to. I notice the rude people that day more. Especially when I worked customer service. Idk, it's nothing to serious really, I just fear if something bad will happen it will happen on that day. So I prepare myself mentally mostly

@LadyDuck When I was thinking about this moon effect I remembered that the word lunatic and lunacy are both from the root lunar which of course refers to the moon. It appears that others have noticed this effect many years ago and it rang so true that it got into the language.

@41CombedaleRoad We also use the term lunatic in Italy, the moon was luna in Latin and we still use the same word in Italian.

But why is it that you never sleep well when it's a full moon , my dear ?
I don't even remember that it's a full moon whenever i am about to sleep , but have seen after arriving from work , that it's indeed a full moon . No effect at all , except , i am feeling so romantic when i see the full moon .

if the gravity is strong enough to affect the tides, I can't imagine it doesn't have some affect on us

@Jessicalynnt It is a possibility, but it's also difficult to prove that a person is acting a bit weird.

@LadyDuck , for me a full moon is enthralling and peaceful. Probably because a full moon affects the human body like it does the oceans waves. Since our bodies are 75% water, the 'tides' of the body would be affected.

@LadyDuck One time when I came home from work at 2am, there was a full moon and I laid on the hood of my car to just enjoy it. I woke up a couple hours later. I lived in a very bad neighborhood at the time, so that probably wasn't the smartest thing I had ever done.

I have some knowledge in astrology, but I never had an attention to the affect of the full moon upon me. But it is known that even some days before the full moon, things can start to get strange. Yesterday I just lost it in some forum in my country and wrote something to someone that bothered me months ago with some comment, I didn't insulted him but wrote something in aggressive manner. I didn't understand where it came from, the moon is going to be tomorrow or already in Gemini. Which means people have to be carefull with their words. Cause Gemini connected to communication. Also I saw in a series about home birth a midwife saying there are births more than usual in times of a full moon.

@EllaSpringtime We were out early this morning because we had to pick up our car at the garage. The place looked crazy this morning, people were weird, nervous, anxious and tonight it's the full moon. I am sure that there is an influence on people.

@LadyDuck also, I Think it's affecting my ability to sleep. I am not sure. But I am glad you wrote this, because next month I will be preparing myself. I know about this affect, but something in your post makes me want to investigate about it more.
