The Christmas pickle is said to be a long time tradition that was started in Germany many, many years ago.
The story behind it was that the Christmas Pickle ornament was the last ornament to be hung on the Christmas tree.
The first child to find the Christmas pickle received an extra present.
As I said earlier, it was said to be an old German tradition, however, many in Germany had never heard of it.

Yes and last year I bought a pickle for the tree and it came in a mason jar and had paper with that story on it.

@AbbyGreenhill I received a pickle a few years ago but never really bothered to read the story. I found it an interesting bit of information.

@HazySue I bought the pickle because my husband is always making dill pickles, the story was a side benefit.

I have heard of it, but have never known of anyone who used this tradition. Sounds like fun for the little ones!

I've seen pickle ornaments, but didn't know the story behind them.
