Anyone one out there had a vlt/slot machine addiction.Any tips to keep yourself away from gambling like this.
One trick I am using now to never go back is thinking of the money lost plus the 25% i am loosing on credit card interest yearly. 125% loss, no win situation.
That and the fact i am good at investing and was foolish to play these machines at all loosing to make money from them.

my mom was/is (i don't really know if she still is) a gambler. some of my childhood memories include not seeing her for days because she was gambling and people taking our things as payment for the money she borrowed whenever she was losing. so i grew up hating gambling, so i never had a gambling addiction.

I save coins in a jar all year just for the casino and go once a year spending only the coins I have saved in my jar.The rest of the year I refuse to go into a casino.

That sounds like a good idea @sherryeb. I use to live near a new casino and we would go a couple times a year on Thursday nights as that was when the discount was for the buffet for seniors. We would only go 2 or 3 times a year and it was so close. I like playing games on here instead as it doesn't cost any money.

I am happy you are still making the effort to stay gambling free. I have a friend that isn't seeing how he is becoming addicted to poker playing. He is online hours nightly and spending thousands in tournaments all over. He thinks that big win will come. He said his family doesn't see a problem nor do his other friends.

I don't gamble, so my advice to just not do it might not be sufficient.

If you can not stay away from the slots than do not go there to begin with.

Thank goodness, I don't play slot machines. I only tried it once on a Cruise Ship and lost 60 dollars and that was enough of a loss for me never to do it again.

When you visit these places, have a budget of $20-$100 and give yourself a time limit. If your budget is gone, leave. If the time has come, leave. Better still, if you've doubled your money, leave. Greediness often make us lose. It's meant for you to have fun instead of glum.
