Do you like to wash dishes?

My daughter is washing dishes

My 3-year-old daughter always likes to wash dishes since she was young. For her, it's like playing water, but she really does the work seriously. She always offers help when she sees me washing dishes, or she just tells me she wants to wash dishes. Actually I am not so fond of washing dishes, so I am glad to have a little helper. Hope she will always like to help even when she is older. Who usually does this job in your family?

Thanks! Yes, she is very serious. Sometimes when she is seriously working, she just doesn't talk to me at all.

Her passion for washing dishes will pass soon, I think to remember that I also liked, while now this is the most annoying task for me.

Yes, it may be, especially for kids. Doing it for fun and for responsibility could be very different. So, I am hoping she will still like it and continue to do it when she grows older.

@Hatley My little girl likes to do the laundry as well. I think different people like to do different tasks. I have read that it's good to assign the housework to the children according to their interests, though it might be good for them to know how to do everything at home.

That's so nice you let your daughter wash the dishes. Children need to do some housework. Then it will be good for them when they grow up. Children are very sweet and in fact they like to be helpful. Usually in my home I will wash the dishes. If I am tired, my husband will do it. My son sometimes will ask for it by himself. i hope he will have less homework so that I will feel more relaxed for him to help me.

Yes, I think most children like to help, they also like to do what the parents are doing. Most of the time, the parents disallow them to help when they are young, so they don't feel like helping anymore when they get older. My parents were like that when I was young, so I didn't get to do much housework. Good that your son is willing to help. I understand the heavy load of a student nowadays, and I heard in China, there is even more competitive. I always hope the children can have less homework to do and more play time.

@kaka135 Yes, I think the study pressure is heavy in China. When I was a student, my mom ever helped me to do the homework because it was a lot. Perhaps one day I will do the same for my son, too

I think a lot of kids are this way. I like to wash dishes. Sometimes I forget to put the dishes in the dishwasher. I like to see my hands so nice and clean.

@celticeagle We usually only wash with cold waters here, as we don't have warm water from the pipe.

Thanks. I used to wash the dishes together with her, but now I just let her wash alone as she can handle them now. She does things quite seriously.

Hope she wears gloves as detergents may be harsh on her delicate skin.

I never thought of that. Thanks for reminding, but I doubt wearing gloves will be easier for her to wash the dishes. Perhaps I will apply essential oil for her after washing.

@allknowing Okay, thanks for your concern. Perhaps I should make some homemade detergent for her, so I know there is no chemicals inside.

@kaka135 She is still a baby and I am sure her hands will turn rough. Please do so as soon as possible. I hope she really really enjoys that chore. But from the health point of view of your little one you need to take care.

Oh you are lucky that she wants to wash dishes at that early age of hers . And she looks so serious washing them. I also love washing the dishes . Maybe because i like the feel of water in my hands . But not after i have just cooked .

I always enjoy looking at the children while they are seriously working on something, it's so charming and cute! Good that you love washing the dishes. I enjoy washing them only because I love seeing the clean and empty sink.

@SIMPLYD I think for young children, doing chores is like having fun as well. Sometimes my children like washing the toilet, they have so much fun playing with the water and bubbles. I try not to make chores like tedious work to do but fun work. But sometimes it's hard to get the children tidy up the toys they have played.

I am usually the one to do dishes in my house. I am not a big fan of doing them either but I don't have a choice. My kids like to help with other things but I don't want them to break a dish or cut themselves on a knife so I don't allow them to do dishes yet.

I don't let my children wash the knife yet, though I let them use it to cut something. As I have been letting my children to use those breakable kitchenware since they were young, and I see them handle it well, then only I dare to let my children wash the dishes.

I think she likes to play with bubbles too. I bet she likes to take shower because she can play with bubbles. I do not like or dislike washing dishes, since it is a task that I have to do at least once a day.

Awwe, that's so cute. And we usually rotate, or wash our own once we are finished using them. I don't care for doing the dishes lol, but I'll still do it.

I think it's easier if we wash our own dishes once we are done using them. In my home, my husband or I will wash the dishes, depends who is free or willing to do so. Now, my little girl plays a role as well.

I hate washing dishes. I can sometime talk my son into washing them. When I was a kid there were ten of us living in the same house. I think that is why I don't like doing them so much.

You really have a big family. I guess if the workload is divided by more people, then it'd be easier to finish the task. Good that your son can do the washing sometimes.
