How we can help mylot.

random paint I created, I know, I know, going to make me a new one today

Saw a discussion today made by a copier of posts this morning, sad thing is, I wouldn't have even known since I had not yet seen the original. Once I noticed it was pointed out, I removed my like, went and put my comment on the original and reported the copy. But still. Here is my suggestion. We get to help. So a post gets reported. It get's moved to a "Needs Checked" tab. Maybe this isn't one everyone can see, or something. There are, I am sure, many mylotters who would volunteer to help with this, like me. We work those posts and post up things like, yep a copy here is the link to the original, or this does break the rule X. Or even, nope, think this one was fine. During that time the originator could see a page that states, "post under review" or something. Then mylotting paid staff can come along and have a leg up on the legwork. This allows several benefits that I see 1. Post is temp removed from circulation. 2. Prevents people from wasting time commenting and such if they don't realize. 3. Keeps the poster from being overly embarrassed if the report was wrong, perhaps someone who thought they broke a rule, but it really didn't. Or, Havens forbid, someone was being a troll and reporting it just to be rude. 4. Let's us help too! Those who want to anyways. Some of us have been staff and moderator in various online forums, and we like to give back. 5. More hands to get the researching and legwork done. What do you think about this idea of mine?

I don't like the idea of a group of "volunteer" overlords. I really don't think it works when members are in charge of deleting other members' posts. I think it's fine that we can report them if we think there is a problem and that there is an admin to review them and remove them if necessary. I haven't seen admin say that they can't keep up. I really don't like member spies. I have bad memories of those at more than one site and if it gets down that, I won't stick around.

@Jessicalynnt right now we have a system, see a questionable post, report it. The admin then deals with it exclusively. What is being suggested here can be done with dialogue, kind of inefficient yes but does work? It is internal chatter but educational for new and existing members. Anything beyond that for members changes their status and for fairness they should be recognized as part of admin with various admin functionalities. I like your idea just think an unofficial "helping" member who would do more for the site than post topics. Just regular members who want to help other members.

@Bluedoll I don't like the way it is now to be honest, it's a very public venue and while the people comment I have seen were correct in that was a copy or plagiarism or whatever, it was still blunt and in your face. what if they were wrong? what if they got nasty? What if someone sees the comments and runs with it elsewhere to may mylot looks bad. It needs to get taken out of the public eye and handled quietly and privately, but still allowing people to help ID and provide proof of issues.

nope not in charge of making the decision, only there to help research. the decision still gets made by mylot staff, not the volunteers.

I think it helps when something is tagged "reported", I am not sure if I would do more than that.

@Jessicalynnt that could work perhaps you could send it as a suggestion to the admins

@Hatley I pondered that, for now just leaving this up as a popular discussion, I know staff are lurking about! lol

It is up to admin how they want to handle reported posts. It is a suggestion but really it is up to admin to determine "how" they want help or notify members of any kind of help they don't want. Guess they are the only ones that can answer your question?

@Jessicalynnt That's a good idea. No one wants to waste time. That would however open it up to abuse. Can you see why?

@Bluedoll which is why the final say should have nothing to do with the volunteers, they are only allowed to provide research, links, etc.

I'd love to at least see reported posts go out of circulation until they are looked at, I hate thinking I wasted time on a copy of a post or something.

Other sites have tried to get 'monitors' to volunteer to do things similar, but from the way they stated it would require a lot of time and no compensation of any kind - points or whatever. People don't want to give up their time for nothing. It's what myLot thinks of your idea that's important.

I love working for the fact I can say I can, or maybe a nifty badge, but don't mind the lack of compensation. can be used as job experience. that kind of thing. But I only think this should be for research, the actual decision needs made not by those volunteers

@Jessicalynnt but there is the d anger there of vol unteers being parital to someone who plagiarixed and not doing a fair job. i say leave it to the admins who are trained and not biased.

@Hatley well that's why I would want it done in such a way that all the volunteers could do is research, they would not get any kind of final say in the decision or handling of.

I am just so sick of thieves and cheater from that other site, I don't think anyone who can't follow the rules here should be allowed to stay. Your ideas are good but how many people are working behind what we see? I just assumed there were very few but i could d be wrong. I think a lot of the members help here now by hitting the report button.

I agree with you 1000%, no matter what you do in life there are rules that need to be followed. As I become more active I will make it my quest to find follow and rid the site as many already do. Yes the thieves crooks cheaters have followed here too it seems.

@celticeagle something sounds or looks off, like it looks like it might have been written for a blog, or has TONS of stats and seems all stilted, like not a personal observation or something.

First we should start reporting such matters to mylot admin staff, wait for what action has been taken on their part. Also need to collect data such how many cases do occur per week or month. If the frequency of such cheating and copying and reproducing the fellow mylotter's content is alarming than all mylot members should protest and forward our suggestions to mylot admin staff and ask them provide us safety from such cheating phenomenon. That's what I am thinking. this is too early to reach to any conclusion or take any action.

@Jessicalynnt I noticed 2, only today. I have read few comments of other members they also have noticed and reporting, frequency is increasing. Also noticed 4 or 5 spams today. Copy and paste stuff.

from what I see reported posts are investigated pretty promptly anyway - I think the system in place works well so we just need to report the stuff we suspect of being bad and leave it to Alex

I don't like the forum, too public, or at least there needs to be a way in the report, to post links or comments to the staff, so it's not on the post itself (what if the poster gets the real and the copy mixed up, and someone's rep is damaged by mistake!), I also wonder how many of these gets reported. If mylot gets more traffic this will become a much bigger task.

Great suggestion there.. If we could have the post temporarily suspended until the mod has a look it would be great. I keep reporting those pots that violate the guidelines.

If you hover over the words at the end of a post, you can see 'Reported' in red letters if someone has already reported it before you. This could be moved to the top to save other members' time. They wouldn't read it then and could move on to other posts.

Everybody hates a plagiarist! They are the scourge of blogging sites like this. I think they are the ones that actually break the back of the site eventually - like Bubblews!

It is really hard to catch those who steal discussions. It happened in Bubblews and the worst thing is that it was so prevalent, and the management did not really have the resources to catch each and every thief. I think the best thing to do is to ban the user for good.
