Where have all the writers gone?

Where have all the writers gone? I am sure I am not the only person on here who uses multiple writing sites paid or not. I had stopped visiting many of the sites for various reasons. However I had started to visit quite a few of them again and I was a bit curious as to where the writers had gone. I went on one a few weeks ago and started interacting again. Since I have had a bunch of computer internet problems I decided to take whatever time it wasn't acting up to come and visit my favorite ones which this was one of them. It is still acting up but not as much or as badly today so I decided to visit one of the other sites and see what I had missed. Guess what I didn't miss much. I logged in and went to my notifications and I had a lot of them. The problem was that after about the fifth one I realized that the rest were all old ones. Some of the notifications were so old that that the writer no longer had even been active on the site. Some went back as far as last summer. It is quite sad and makes me wonder where have all the writers gone?

I think things must be slow because of the holidays on every site. I know here it is slow and I think everyone is just busy offline.

you know what is kind of funny my internet has been acting up and this is one of the few sites that i don't get kicked off line of often. Some of the other sites I can't even log into them.

You probably like keeping it simple and I sometimes wish that I could do the same but I say that and then go and sign up for a bunch of places lol.

We have turned into journalists now, keeping up with the news and one another. You will find us under different names perhaps, sharing views and opinions that there was never time for previously.

it is the search place that I can't figure out where to find it to then search for people I know but I guess it is beside the write symbol. I would have to know the name of the person and I don't always know what name people use on here.

@winterose I rely on responding to people who are on my notifications, I have not managed to find them by typing in their names.

I'm using different pennames too in different sites. Mostly blogger and wattpad. I use figment as well but this is the only forum I'm active because I could relate to most of the topic and people are usually friendly.

I expect that a lot of people who wrote on sites like Bubblews and now Wikinut have become discouraged. Maybe they are just taking a break to recharge before finding new sites to write on.

trust me I have been writing for over 20 years, the time to write for online sites are slipping away from us.

@lokisdad so true, and it is hard when you know you are a great writer like me and had pulled in lots of money over the years and everything is trying up.

I think that sometimes it is discouraging when you work hard at something especially if it isn't your strong suit and then you watch it blow up in your face and you don't earn anything from all of your efforts and time invested.

I'm brand new here so I'll be hanging out! Looks like a pretty cool site... I have my main personal blog but I like these sites, too. I can get the writing juices flowing and ramble about stuff that might not fit other places.

That is when the variety helps when you want to ramble about stuff that really is more personal than anything else. I like it here its very laid back in terms of writing freedom and the amount of interaction is surprisingly really high. welcome I hope you like it and stay.

@winterose I'm liking it more and more. These kinds of sites have built up my confidence to not care so much what people think and not be so much of a perfectionist. The more you post on your blog, the more comfortable you get with it. And if you find that any older posts are embarrassing... you can always delete them!

Well I am here now, most of my writing sites don't pay anymore so I am a bit distraught because I use that money to make ends meet. But I used to be here years ago and so I just came back.

there used to be many sites and now it seems as if there aren't many left and the few that are left are hard to make money on most of the time.

I have the same question. I am so missing my writers friends. They have not come back here. Maybe they have better earning activities somewhere out there.

I don't know but this place is the easiest site to earn even though it isn't buzzing as much as i would like.

Well, writers are regrouping and making alternate plans. Some like Peter Giblett are even writing on their own collaborative blogs too.

It is true - I am writing on a collaborative blog. but in truth with writing sites closing in recent times it is sometimes difficult for writers to continue. Eventhough it has stopped paying I continue to write and moderate for Wikinut, but at the same time I am also developing other creative outlets.

@pgiblett its sad because its the sites like this one that many people survive off of when they have no other source of income.

Many of my favorite writing sites had either gone scam or have gone US exclusive. In my case where have all the writing sites gone.

@lokisdad Mylot use to be more active years ago. It is still recovering from the mistake they did years ago. Before it is easy to earn 2 dollars a year here. It is not possible anymore.

yeah that is very true i used to like yahoo voices because they used to do up front payments and would have a topics that were preselected that you could write about if you wanted to as well.

This time of year is always quiet on sites like this. Mind you, with the low rates being paid on virtually all writing sites, it is not surprising that many people are thinking of more profitable things top do!

that is great that you only need to be here, I need much more money than I will be able to make now here or on any one site.

If the site stops paying or the payment is too low, you will find anyone active there. I think that is the case with Triond. A lot of us have left there, and we definitely do not want to return there.

We are around! I haven't wrote much of anything new lately. What I write I like to put into music. But those thing get boring when you have no one to jam with. Perhaps I can get my brain going again and, cook up some more good stuff.
