Well I got that totally wrong

Yesterday I wrote about my reticence to go to see my friends performing in their choirs this evening but I was totally wrong. This time we weren't stuck in a cold, drafty church listening to heavy, worthy singing and a terrible orchestra. That's what put us off last year. This year was completely different. The tiny, pretty, historic Dutch town of Buren was lit up be candles in jam jars lining the streets and the windows of the house and dozens of choirs and bands set up all over the town to sing to passers-by. Each choir had a maximum of 30 minutes to do their bit, fighting against the background noise of other choirs and bands. Both of our friends' choirs did very well and both kept to more 'accessible songs. My husband and I found ourselves hopping about about in the dark whilst listening to them. The town was absolutely gorgeous and the whole place was beautifully atmospheric. I'm glad we went and I'd definitely go again.
