Frustrated with Computers!

I am trying so hard this morning to get caught up with everyone, but I am trying to do this on a very old laptop! We have 4 computers in this house, for 2 people and none of them work right! My newest laptop, which is only about 1 year old, is in the shop right now as it has had problems since we bought it. Hubby desktop doesn't work right and he never uses it. Our "good" computer is in the bedroom where hubby is currently asleep,so here I am on a laptop that is probably 10 years old! It is actually working better than I thought it would, but is soooo slow! I hope to get my other laptop back sometime today or tomorrow and hopefully it will be fixed and work better. We upgraded our internet, which cost us over $1,000.00! We had to put up a tower to accommodate the upgraded equipment, that was a very expensive upgrade. Hopefully, by next week, I will have a really good internet connection and a good working computer. I may not know what to do with myself! I will be so excited if everything works the way it should!

It can be very frustrating when all the expensive technology still behaves like the ice age. You will do fine with keeping up and if you do not, I do not think anyone really keeps score.

I agree! We spend so much money on expensive technology equipment, and still have slow response times! For me, it is the worst at work, where we have lightning fast T1 and T3 internet lines, but yet are computers are slower than dial-up internet because of our virus protection software. It's like we can't win no matter what!

Oh man, I can so relate to that. I've had a lmac desktop for 7.5 years, (the last two years I had recurring issues with the monitor's wires and the hard drive), before I called it quits and got a new one, a little over three years ago. I hope you get your laptop issues all sorted out by next week.

@sgbrown You're welcome. It can be a PITA for sure. And to get your computer fixed can be expensive, too.

Thank you, @KristenH It seems that computers are made to last more than a year or two anyway, then they start having all kinds of problems.

Wow, that stinks. We have two computers for three people, a laptop about 4 years ago that runs super slow and then my new desktop computer my son recently built for me that works really good. I hope your laptop comes back and works good, for only a year old it shouldn't need repairs already.

@sgbrown I know what you mean, I hate trying to find someone who is able to help me with my computer but won't charge a lot. As for my son, it took me months and then weeks after I gave him the money for the parts for him to get motivated to build it. Then by the time he got the parts, it was finished in just a couple days.

I think my laptop had a problem when we got it, but everyone was blaming it on my internet. I finally found someone that seems to know what they are doing. At least I hope so! It's great that you have a son that can build one for you!

@BelleStarr Pretty much! We live out in the country and cable doesn't come this far. After the expense of putting up the tower, out monthly bill is $68. To me that is too expensive, but it is either that or no internet!

My computer is about 5-6 years old and it is really slow too so I understand your frustration. I really need a new computer but can't afford it right now.

@sgbrown I hope the repair isn't too costly too. If it is, it might be better to buy a new computer.

Amazing how dependent we become to technology!! You had to put up a tower??? Never heard about that before! I just got a new desktop after 6 years with Windows 10--love it! I am not into laptops or iphones, etc, anything that you can take out to and annoy the public with. Sorry but anyone with a cell phone in public is annoying to others--even those with cell phones! LOL

@sgbrown this is true in parts of rural UK too, one farmer was able to provide for a group of neighbours doing something similar

@GreatMartin We live in the country and can't get cable. We use satellite internet and our house is surrounded by trees, so we have to get the receiver higher than the tree line. Hubby had to put up a 50 foot tower, a pole was not strong enough for the "new and improved" equipment. I agree with the cell phone crap being annoying! People don't even talk to each other anymore, they just sit there and jack with their phones! I use my laptop at the kitchen table, so I can watch TV and visit with hubby while I am "working". :)

I know, @marlina, but we had no choice. We live out in the country and have to use satellite for our internet. We are surrounded by trees and had a pole up that the antenna was connected to. When the internet company upgraded their equipment, our internet didn't work hardly at all anymore. The pole we had up wasn't strong enough to hold their new satellite dish, so we had to put in a tower to be strong enough. I just thank God that hubby was able to do most of the work putting up the tower or that would have been another expense!

Nothing more annoying than a slow computer. My desktop ( which I prefer) is only a couple of months old so it works really well and fast. I love that.
