Is it really a happy holiday?

OK good people I'm noticing that people are worried about the wrong things during this holiday. Their worried about how they don't have enough money to load up the Christmas tree and how their kids are going to approve or disapprove; how they have bought the most expensive gift they could, or how extravagant the dinner has to be; or other non factor type bull on this level of thinking. I'm not seeing a lot of the right values such as we at least have food; or it's the fact somebody cared enough to get you anything; or how about this one....how is somebody else doing physically emotionally and mentally this holiday; or is my neighbor going to bed hungry; or are they doing well mentally because this is a time of loss for many people and their family. The values we pass to the youth will surpass the gift that will bore them by the end of the night. We have to do better people. Now if you have it like that kudos, but let's not forget Lil Timmy who's mom works for $7.50hr and who can't afford a chicken to put on the table so she hopes there's a soup kitchen open on Christmas. Let's not forget to ask the neighbor that normally is happy and jolly all year round but lately looks like he or she wants to crawl in a hole, are you ok. We have to be each others keepers and bring back the meaning of real Christmas. God, Love, family, giving , caring. You will feel better to see somebody else smile with you.

For us who are not celebrating Christmas, and who do not live in countries where majority celebrate Christmas, I feel that it is stupid to waste so much time and money on Christmas tree if the family is not that well off. The most important thing is always health. That means to have good food, and enough time for exercise. Once that is taken care of, the rest is easier to manage.

@scheng1 You are right. Christmas is a hard time for poor people. So much stuff is needed to celebrate the holiday. Then its all packed away until the one month comes again. And if you don't have the stuff its easy to feel left out.

I do agree so very much that people think about the wrong things. It is like that throughout the year but more so at Christmas time x

I find nothing wrong in celebrating Christmas - as long as we do not forget the values and reason why we celebrate it so. If someone thinks that it is a holiday that one must take advantaged of to impress, get the stuff that you want from people who you think "owe" you, and to make sure that you get best bang for your buck then that is sad.

The most troubling thing to me this time of year is that people who are suffering financially all year long will find no shortage of people to help...but then all of those people disappear on December 26th. I think people (especially Christians) should either embrace and live out the "Christmas spirit" all year long or stop being hypocrites and don't bother faking it for the four weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Signed, Scrooge.

Good post. I'm still trying to find someone who will help me get my Mom to a Christmas service. I even e-mailed a priest tonight- the other one just told me to call the office. Duh. I did and got no answer back.
