A Girl's Eye View Of The Office Party.

It's the office party tonight,
Will I go? I suppose that I might,
I'm not really keen
There's often a scene
As people get high as a kite.
Now here I am on the settee
The Big Boss sits down next to me,
It seems to be fine,
He offers me wine,
Like a queen, I survey all I see.
There's Nancy, oh no, can it be?
She normally only drinks tea,
With rum she is swinging,
Rude songs she is singing,
And the guys all watch her with glee
Poor Simon is in some distress,
A quivering, querulous mess,
The drink's made him ill,
His wife's set to kill,
As he's puked down her lovely dress.
Oh what's this that's happening to me?
The big boss's hand on my knee,
He is very sleek
His breath it does reek,
But how can I possibly flee?
Oh relief - young Pete sees my glance
It seems he's been waiting his chance,
He is very kind
And has read my mind
Comes over and asks me to dance.
I think that it's time to go home,
The witching hour's been and it's gone,
I am far too wise
To try and pull guys,
I'd much rather wake up alone.

@MarshaMusselman Ah - found this now right at the bottom of the post. Glad you like the post thanks, and no, the limericking didn't get out of hand in the comments this time.

@Asylum I thought maybe I'd follow the thread and it would be ongoing like on the other post recently. I can't resist reading either of your limericks either, so limerick on. I should work harder to respond in that manner, but it's a bit more work unless I'm in the mood.

O, you did it again, @jaboUK ! You are so good in composing beautiful rhymes! So, for sure you were so pretty when you were young . . . your boss even tried his luck . . but now way, your heart belongs to someone special - - Pete! Is he your husband?

@antonbunot This isn't a real scenario Julito - it all came out of my head. Glad you liked it anyway.

As always, I enjoyed this poem like so many others you have penned! Despite the advances of your boss, I hope you still had a good time at the office party! haha

@moffittjc This particular office party was all in my head, thank goodness. I've never attended a real one.

@jaboUK haha I figured so, but thought I'd play along with the post! So, I guess that means you and Pete never kissed under the mistletoe?

I would guess 1950's or early 60's. Glad those days are gone.

@ElizabethWallace I didn't have any particular era in mind. I never worked in an office, so never went to a party

@41CombedaleRoad I'm glad I'm forgiven - unlike you, I have no personal experience of these events myself

@Marilynda1225 Lol - I wonder how many people are fired as a result of misbehaving at the office party

@jaboUK I do remember one office Christmas party that a co-worker got so drunk he took the microphone from the DJ and proceeded to tell off the boss. Needless to say he was escorted from the party and promptly fired

This has universal appeal I suspect. Many of us have been to those usually grotesque events.
