Let it Snow?

Let it snow? Are you crazy? Take a look at this photo. It was taken out of my living room window this morning.
The big question was, are we going to have snow for Christmas? We most certainly will unless this melts in the next 24 hours. That is not going to happen since the high temperature for today is forecasted to be 33º F–one degree above freezing (32º F or 0º C). And the nighttime temperatures from now until Sunday, January 3, 2016, is staying in the teens with one night as low as 10º F (-12º C).
According to the news we have had about 25 inches (63.5 cm) of snow this fall. That isn’t what is on the ground. We had snow that has melted away. Right now we have about one foot (30.5 cm) of snow on the ground. And there is another snowstorm coming in this afternoon. And the forecast calls for snow overnight and snow tomorrow.
Okay, the powers to be, we get it. You are sick and tired of hearing us complain about not having white Christmases for the past few years. We get that you can whip out a white Christmas even in an El Niño year when we are supposed to have a warm winter.
I will thank the powers to be for one thing. It now appears as if we will have a decent snowpack in the mountains saving us from another drought filled summer.
And it’s starting to snow again.
Merry Christmas all!

All I have to say is WOW! Well, you know that's not all I have to say.
Now THAT is the White Christmas I would love to see outside our window (ain't gonna happen of course). I know I would freeze my tush off if I were out there, but it'd be so worth it to see all that beautiful snow.
So are you going to build a snowman? Make a snow angel? I'd throw a snowball at you!
Hope you have a very, Merry Christmas @RichardMeister !! You got your snow!

@RichardMeister Throwing a snowball at you!
I drove through a road with fresh snow only once. I was about to go up the mountains til the sheriff stopped me and said I needed chains from that point. After that I tried to drive off . . . I knew I was stepping on the gas, but I was going no where even though I heard the car revving . . . and then I realized the sheriff was yelling at me to stop because my tire had been spewing snow all over him - ha ha. Yep, I don't know how to drive in snow!

I'm too old to make a snowman or snow angel, but if you threw a snowball at me I'd throw one right back at you.
Yes, it looks very pretty looking at it out the window, but I bet if you had to shovel it off the outside steps, walkway and driveway it wouldn't take you very long to change your feelings about it. Then if you tried driving in it...well I think it wouldn't be very long before you were wishing to return to California.
You have a Merry Christmas, too.

@much2say That couldn't have made the sheriff too happy. It's a wonder he didn't give you a ticket for something. Not having chains when required or negligent driving or something.

It does look like you hav a lot of snow there and guess you will be having even more. At least the drought will be ended for you section of the country. We don't have any snow predicted for Christmas day but it will be extremely cold and only about 20 miles from here earlier it was starting to snow but has not come our way. Hope you enjoy your White Christmas and might I say Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Yes, lots of snow. We are hopeful the drought will be ended.
I'm sure I'll enjoy this white Christmas. My brother and I will be taking our mother out for Christmas dinner.
I hope you have a Merry Christmas, too.

Yes, I heard about that @RichardMeister I think Oregon and California were also in that dilemma.
I'm used to droughts, we get them anywhere from 6 to 10 years at a time but we don't have lot's of trees and the plants we do have are able to keep enough moisture in their lower roots and limbs to compensate the lack. Deserts are fascinating places.

Yes, we had a bit of a drought which lead to some horrible forest fires. It was the worst season for forest fires on record. At one time there was something like 60% of the state of Washington that was on fire.
Merry Christmas to you, too.

Not too long ago the fires raged in Colorado and Arizona and some parts of New Mexico @RichardMeister that was too close for comfort. We've been banned from starting any kind of open fires around here and no fireworks that are not professional.
Our drought is just now looking like it might have ended, it started in 2007.

@RichardMeister Yes, it is very warm! We are use to knee deep snow, and -25C most times plus wind chill. We are walking around with shorts, and t shirts on.

@ricki_911 We thought we were going to have a fairly warm winter because of El Niño, but so far that's not happening. The weatherman was even surprised we got a white Christmas. And even more surprised at how much snow we've gotten.

A green Christmas is better than a blue Christmas. 13º C is 55º F. That's pretty warm for Canada at this time of the year.

Merry Christmas to you too. We haven't had any snow yet just a dusting about few weeks ago that disappeared quickly. Its very strange not to have snow by now. I noticed Buffalo finally got some snow this week but nothing here in Ontario yet. Maybe it will skip us completely...I can only hope. I love your photo.

@RichardMeister We are happy to be warm right now but we need the cold to do its thing with mother nature. We will have snow, I just hope I'm not here when it happens. Until the roads are cleared it makes life a bit difficult.

I'm glad you like my photo. The east side of the US has been having some fairly warm days. I think it would be very unlikely you will get through winter without any snow.

Snow is always pretty looking at it out the window, but not so pretty when your feet fly up and your bottom smashes into it. That can hurt.

I'd love a white Christmas but doesn't look like it's going to happen
