I cannot imagine throwing out fruitcake, as in my opinion, it is such a rich, annual treat. And for anyone who has ever looked at a recipe knows the time and effort it takes to make a fruit cake correctly, not to mention the costs of the fruits and nuts, the cheesecloth and the brandy needed to soak the cake in for those weeks leading up to Christmas.

That is interesting. I never knew there was a holiday to toss fruit cake. And I am like you, my husband and I like fruit cake and would never throw it away.

My mother made fruitcake that was fresh and it was very good. The ones that you buy in the store you can use as a dooor stop becuse they are so hard.

I'm with you. I enjoy fruitcake. I think it has been given a bad rap. I know a lot of people who enjoy a good fruitcake.

Fruit cakes deserve better than a dustbin!! Rather than throwing away you could give it to the under previliged !
