Morning Stiffness

Every morning when I get up, it takes me forever to "unstiffen" my back. At first, I feel like I am one hundred years old. And then, slowly after I walk around the house (via centre hall) a few times and drink some coffee, it gets better. I was just wondering if a lot of other Mylot users feel that way in the morning?

how good is your mattress? do you have a heating pad you could turn on and lay on for a few minutes before you get up?

Our mattress is very comfortable and only a few years old. A heating pad before getting up? Never thought about this solution.

@marlina if it helps relax the muscles so you aren't so stiff getting up it might help!

I just wake up with my back hurting as i have scoliosis but it never feels stiff. The only thing that feels stiff is my shoulders and neck from sleeping the wrong way probably.

Does scoliosis keeps you from doing certain activities?

As is often the case with people who are up in years. Doctors call it degenerative changes?

I guess that is what it is: part of ageing.

I agree with you changjiangzhibin89, degenerative ailments are unavoidable. It's a matter of time when we cross that bridge. To some they happen in an earlier stage of senior years. Lifestyle and the type of food one eats could hasten the process. To slow down the process, aside from adhering to a healthy lifestyle and diet, regular practice of meditation helps a lot.

I am that way every morning but it is all of my joints. It takes about an hour of moving around, feeding the dogs and drinking coffee before I feel more like myself. If it is cold or rainy out, it's even worse. Is it that way for you too?

It is mostly my back and my right hip. I need coffee too and some walking around before I feel better. Raining a lot right now, but it looks like springtime. Also pretty windy.

I have the same problem like you I think it's due to bones weakness.

@marlina & @amnabas if you don't have serious problems like low back pain or scoliosis, I strongly suggest slow walking early in the morning as a form of exercise. Walking around in the house doing your daily chores is no substitute to exercise :-). Swimming twice a week as an exchange to the walking exercise would even do you much better, it provides a thorough blood circulation. I have problems with slow walking exercise, I always feel exhilarated after the walk but in the afternoon my low back starts to ache

Oh, I am like that all the time. I have found that if you groan loudly, then it helps you to straighten up and get the stiffness out. It's good to move a bit now and again, just to keep joints from stiffening up again.

I don't have back problems. I wonder if you took a warm bath in the morning and added some ebson salts. This is supposed to take the soreness out of muscles.

I usually wake during the night with a stiff back and or stiff hip, and then have to get out of bed to walk it off and change my position. Ya just have to love this aging process don't ya?

No, I am not really stiff in the morning, a bit slower in my movements, but after the coffee I am ready to function.

I am stiff at times. Mostly depending on what I did the day before. I helped my husband paint our living room a few days ago and my shoulder is still stiff and sore.
