Do You Hum???

My husband says I am always humming. I guess I must be because he mentions it so much. I really didn't realize I was. I read somewhere that if you hum a lot it means you are happy. I am actually a very happy person. I love my husband, I love my family, and I love my life. It must be true. I also read somewhere that one of the ways to help prevent getting sinus headaches is to hum. It causes a vibration in your sinus cavity that helps your sinuses clear themselves. I don't know if this is true but I rarely have sinus headaches any more. I used to have them a lot. I started humming a lot about one year ago and that's when the headaches seemed to go away. I wonder if the humming has anything to do with the lack of sinus headaches. What do you think? Do you hum a lot?

I used to hum a lot and people would mention it to me. I don't really think it has anything to do with being happy or unhappy. I have never had many headaches so I have no input on that.

@Marcyaz I still hum and I can't seem to stop myself. I do know that my sinus headaches are few and far between. Lucky you that you have never had to battles a lot of headaches.

I am not a hummer, but my wife is. I do however consider myself a happy person. There are times when I will hum. deliberately humming is a good method of turning your mood around, you cannot frown when you hum.

I don't hum, I think, but I've been told that I ostle when I'm doing something intricate. In case you are wondering, ostling is sort of a cross between humming and hissing through the teeth. It's called that (by me) because it's what ostlers do when they're grooming horses.

@MALUSE I gave the definition in my response. It's something which is not quite a whistle, more like a 'tuneful breathing'. You won't find it in any dictionary because my family invented the word.

I don't hum, I sing because I am more a words person than a tunes person. I also do it unconsciously and sometimes people give me a strange look as I am inclined to sing quietly to myself in the street. My husband does not like me singing in the car, so I try not to do that in case it puts him off his driving!

I don't and I kinda have a rather negative feeling about humming because of some personal experience. Growing up I noticed my mom would hum a lot to herself around the house when she got the silence treatment from my dad. So it became a sign of disharmony to me, unfortunately...

I do hum and I sing too, so I must be on that happy person list too. Sadly I do suffer from sinus headaches on occasion also.

Oh your poor husband. I would have smacked you round the head long ago if you kept humming. I had to sit next to a woman on a plane who hummed the whole way. I was ready to scream after about 5 minutes.

I sing instead of hum @HazySue , but I can see where it makes sense to hum especially for the nasal cavities.

@nanette64 they say the vibrations in the nasal cavities make the sinuses stay unblocked.

I do hum and sing. I don't do either well. I sing to our cats and they usually run and hide. That's one way I know I don't do either well :)

My mom used to hum. I don't but I do make weird noises at odd intervals. That makes everyone stare at me for a moment wondering what was wrong with me. Who cares? I do that because I get a happy realization or something makes me exclaim in happiness.
