Maybe it's my bald head

It has to be because of something but I can't quite fathom it out yet
Maybe I should wear a dress - but offline I prefer trousers.
Or maybe a bracelet or a ring on the finger of that hand even.
Was it something that I said or the way that I said it I wonder?
Possibly the wandering eyes.
I am about to give up thinking about it
I just cannot pinpoint why or how I can possibly be mistaken for a man
Do people mistake you as someone from the opposite sex too?

Yes indeed, it's all there yet recently I was referred to as 'he' and 'him'
I really have no idea what it is/was that made tis person decide that I am male. Even my posts make it obvious that I am a grandma

@jaboUK Oh you saw it too and yes I remember that exchange
Seems that they either read so fast that nothing sinks in or maybe they don't read at all as they only have time for their own drama

@mysdianait The same person (name beginning with p) that mis-genderised (??) you, that did the same to me. She'd read and commented on a few of my posts too, so I would have thought she might have picked up on the fact that I was female.
I see she's been throwing a hissy fit. She got all uptight on one of my posts a while ago when you and I told her she was missing the point - got all huffy. Oh well.

Yes. Many think of me as the opposite gender. Reasoning? How can a woman be allknowing

Oh yes, it happened many times in the past. Of course that does not bother me any more than I expect it really bothers you.
It has even happened while I have been using the quill signature as my avatar, which should have been a good indicator.

@purplealabaster The relevance of my quill signature is that it spells out my name, which is Barry. This should be a definite indication that I am male, yet some have confused my gender nevertheless.

Indeed it should have been
You're right that I am not bothered at all as, at least up to now when it has happened, there have been no consequences worth writing home about.

I thought you were a guy, but now I am not sure. Then again, I am not sure what a quill signature has to do with gender, so I guess that I am just lost all around today.

No, I've been told always that I am a very feminine person. So even wearing trousers and layers when camping out I guess there is something that makes me always look like a woman.

Your avatar does not suggest you are female, so one has to read your posts to decide. Maybe it's not always obvious to all that you are female? I am pretty sure you are, but you never can tell these days. Just look at Bruce/Caitlan Jenner, but not too long. I did once and my eyes started to go cross-eyed.

Are you talking about your gender being mistaken online, or in person? If online, I've yet to know the actual gender of many here. In fact, I keep learning about folks and wonder where I can make a note to keep everyone's gender straight. The username isn't always a tip off and the images don't always help. Recently, I found out one person I wondered about for some time was a woman and not a man as I finally decided while another was a man and not the woman.
It does help, somewhat to enlarge the avatar.
If in person, I don't know what you need to do to prove your point without speaking.
Btw, this comment brought to you by the suggestion of @jaboUK .

No, no here not offline. There is no doubt at all offline
My name is in my username here so there should be no doubt but nonetheless once again someone addressed me throughout their response as 'he' and 'him'
Never mind. I know what I am and thank you @JaboUK

@mysdianait Well, I will say that I didn't put together the miss diana right away. There are so many different types of names here from other countries, that I thought at first yours was just something totally different. I didn't use my sleuth eyes to extrapolate it. On the other hand, my sleuth eyes didn't work so well with Barry either, as I thought he was just always busy.

I just read that women are supposed to have avatars that are pink or flowery (or preferably both) on here. I do not like the color pink, so I am good with that one. I really wish that someone had told me years ago that flowers were a stereo-typical avatar for a girl, though, and I could have avoided all this embarrassment for the past six or seven years now.

@mysdianait Well, if all females are supposed to have pink or flowery avatars, and I am clearly a flower (albeit a purple one), then certainly I would be the definition of stereo-typical female. I have been thinking about changing my avatar since I found out that bit of information, but again, I am just too lazy to do it.

I have almost given up. They never ever mistook me to be a Wo-Man. It has something to do with my username I believe.
Maybe the hidden lipstick on your sunny avatar has to do with the mis-identification. Or...
Wait!!! a better one this time... Did they think that you got the mustache trimmed by mistake and that is why the hand is up there and they eyes are looking around just in case anyone noticed that

Names, avatar, and responses all contribute to mistaken identities on the net. People hide behind all sorts of avatars and bizarre names. Some take on a new name as a women when they are actually men. It is easy to mistake a person on here as a man. You profile, avatar and name don't make it easy for a person to know one way or the other. Some just guess it is a man behind the image because most women will use something a little more flowery than you have chosen for yours.
