Why Nutella is not as good as it seems.

I'm not a fan of hazelnuts, but that isn't my problem with Nutella. Have you ever looked at the list of ingredients? Honestly, here's the list in order of proportion to the total volume of the product.
Nutella and Nutrition: sugar, palm oil, hazelnuts, cocoa, skim milk, whey (milk), lecithin as emulsifier (soy), vanillin: an artificial flavor. (from Nutella's website.)
First ingredient - sugar!!! There is more sugar in this than any other ingredient!! Why then are they advertising that it's a nutritious breakfast option for kids? Even cereals aren't mostly sugar. Peanut butter and jelly isn't mostly sugar. (By mostly, I mean sugar as the primary ingredient.) So, why are we buying into this even as we claim to want healthier foods?
I'm not saying to not eat it or ever let your kids have it. I'm saying that I don't think people realize there is more sugar in this than there is hazelnuts or cocoa. I learned this when I bought some for my daughter once after she'd asked me to pick some up. She loves hazelnut coffee and Nutella. She's a full-grown adult, but I was shocked at the nutritional imbalance. I haven't seen her eat it for a while since she's been counting calories to lose weight, but it really shocked me when I read the ingredient list knowing it was being advertised as a nutritional option for your kids' breakfast. WOW!

Nutella is delicious but it certainly isn't healthy. It's one of those things to love only occasionally. I wouldn't let children love it everyday; maybe once per week.

I don't buy it because it's healthy, I buy it because it tastes good. A small jar lasts me over six months so I hope it is not doing me too much harm.

That's how it should be eaten. But, those commercials apparently bothered more people than just me because they were removed from television. Now they're pushing it as an ingredient in all sorts of desert recipes. At least they're associating it with other sweet things now.

This is why parents should always check the label before buying any products especially for kids.

We bought a jar of this way back when Pretty was in her teens... I believe we thru it away when she left for college? IDK for sure, but I think it had been in the cupboard since we moved in here. (We've lived here for 18 years.)
She didn't like it and it was too sweet for me.
