New smoothie fruits of the week

Since I've gotten my blender for Christmas, I've created my own smoothie recipes (and 2 milkshakes) to use up my frozen fruits since last summer. Some recipes I've found online and tried them out. Today I've tried to do a raspberry smoothie, when it came out more like a raspberry Italian ice. I've used up raspberries, strawberries and bananas, and some of my vidalia oranges so far in 3 weeks. I've also adventuring out on trying new fruits for my smoothies. Two weeks ago, I've brought bijou pears. This weekend, I've brought a star fruit. I'm thinking of doing a pear-star fruit smoothie real soon. Mylotters, have you had any star fruit or bijou pears? Any tips on how to peel a lime or a kiwi fruit? I've had trouble with them last year. Any new fruit I should try to buy later this month.

Mmm sounds yummy, sorry i don't make them myself and it's only been a year or two since I had my first one. It was when I was over there.

@KristenH I will need a blender first lol. When I moved over there to be with my ex-partner I gave up everything here, including my home. After our break up I came back to the UK, she was from the States. I came back to nothing and only a bag of clothing, my laptop, camera and my Etsy products, so I have to start over again. No I haven't and can't remember the company you mentioned.

@kevin1877uk Celestial Seasonings. True, you do need a blender. When you do, let me know. I have an Oster. Oh no!

It does. I did a Vidalia orange-blackberry smoothie yesterday. It wasn't bad.

@arthurchappell It did. It was more blackberry than orange, though it reminded me a bit of cranberry sauce and juice too.

I dont remember what kinds of fruit I have had, but it is a wide variety. To peel the kiwi, I just do it very carefully and patiently. I am afraid I dont know any fancy tips.

could try working in some protein powder, or adding flax to some things. Bananas often help thicken smoothies, and I pondered freezing milk to as to not use so much ice that just turns into water

@KristenH well maybe not all at once. I like getting slimfast shake mix and using just a spoon or 2 in mine.

I have flax seeds. I'll have to see about protein powder. I have Carnation Breakfast Essentials. But I'm not sure if that would work. Frozen milk? Hmm.

Kiwi is best peeled when the fruit is still firm before it goes soft. I found that one out. I love kiwi. I've never had star fruit and I've never peeled pears.

I think you can add some yogurt to make it a smoothie rather than just an iced drink. If not yogurt, then some milk powder or milk.

Star fruit not so common where I live, but they're delicious! I have a blender and need to start using it, to make smoothies. I like to incorporate vegetables in them because you can hardly taste the vegetables in yummy fruit smoothies!

Thanks for letting me know star fruit tastes. I'll do veggies and herbs later this year, after I empty my freezer from frozen fruit.

I can't be bothered to blend my own. They are only about £1 for a litre carton in Aldi, so that'll do me. As for the kiwi fruit - I thought you just cut them in half and scoop the middle out?

@KristenH Yeah we got Aldi over here. I didn't know it was over there! lol If you had trouble then it wasn't ripe enough. Personally I don't bother with them. Too much faff. Pomegranates are the same.

I didn't know there was an Aldi's in the UK. I go there once a month for groceries. That's what I thought too and had trouble with it.

@Orson_Kart Oh yeah. It's all over the USA. Maybe. I had pomegranate juice from Pom Wonderful, which is delicious. I'll keep it in mind.

Its easier to squeeze a lime than to peel it. Putting a lime in a blender makes it bitter, I always cut a kiwi in half and scoop the fruit out with a sharp spoon close to the skin. There is not much wastage if you use a sharp thin spoon.

Now if somebody could come up with a way to do raspberries that didn't get stuck in your teeth, wouldn't that be great?

I know the feeling with those seeds. Now my Italian ice looks like a smoothie now with melted ice.... almost.

I love smoothies. I can't get star fruit here. I have heard of it before. I like strawberry smoothies and peach the best.
