Do you speak another language?

I have been thinking about teaching English overseas...and I have been wondering how many people speak a second language..I only speak English...although I have taken Spanish and French. I can pick up Spanish conversation if it is slow enough...but I could not consider myself a speaker. My Spanish vocab just isn't big enough!

I grew up in a bilingual family. My dad spoke to us in English, and my mom spoke to us in French. I can speak in both languages fluently. I can also read and write in English and French.

That is great that you can speak both fluently. My daughter and her family can as well. But I just moved to Quebec a few years ago, so only have what French I learned in school and it is not quite the same.

@snowy22315 I used to teach English in Paris, I also taught it to foreigners in Ireland and I love it. I speak French, but always speak only English with my students. I can also understand Spanish like you, and speak Italian.

I can speak French, English, Spanish and Occitan which is a Southern French local language. I can read/understand more or less correctly a few other Latin languages and Latin itself, but I am unable to speak them.

If you only speak English I do not think you can teach overseas. My native language is Italian, I speak French (I lived in France 25 years), Spanish, English and a little German.

@snowy22315 I am fortunate that I live in an area that is mostly English, and haven't had too many problems with the language.

I know English, Tamil and Baduga (my mother tongue). I can understand Hindi, kannada, Telugu and Malayalam for the most part. I also practiced Sanskrit in college. But I never actually tried my hand at foreign languages. With India's varied culture, the language of the adjacent state is like a foreign language to me

I was born in UK and spoke English there. Then I moved to Italy and now speak Italian too. I give English conversation classes on a one to one basis for anyone interested and I am so happy with the results.

English is my second language. Here in the Philippines we all learn English when we enter school. We also learn English from watching English movies and TV series. I guess no one can live here without learning even basic English. Some people even come here to learn English instead of going to other countries where English is the native tongue because it is cheaper to study here. Although of course you can just study English online.

I could speak English and Vietnamese. I took Spanish for 3 years but I don't remember much since I don't have anyone to practice with.
