Do you have a habit of not answering your phone?

One of my friends does. And I hate it when he do that. Sometimes when I call him for some urgent matters he doesn't answer me at the first time and I had to try again and again to get him on the phone! Initially I thought that he may be busy with something else. But that's not the matter because I came to know that when I was with him once in my college. He got his phone ring and saw that it was his sister. He didn't answer it and just put it inside his pocket after silencing it! I asked him why and he answered that if it was something important she would call him again! A similar incident happened again when he was with me at another occasion and one of his friend called him and he didn't answer it either! So it's not the only case. I just couldn't accept his logic. While I say this I should tell him that he is a good person otherwise and I like him very much but can't understand why he do this! What do you think? Do you have any habit like this?

I can't understand why he would do that, especially on a mobile phone. I went out to clear the snow the other day and that is when 2 people called my mobile (which was sitting inside on my desk) I called them right back when I returned though. My son had a weird habit with mobile phones he would call us, say something quickly, say bye, without a care that we had something to say to him, then turn the phone off and I mean OFF, blank screen, phone not working kind of off. Thank goodness he has learned that people may wish to contact him nowadays.

Yeah me too, that's really an odd thing to do that. I have seen people do missed calls instead of calls to save money. But his case something really rare. And glad to know that your son doesn't do that now. It will really be a woody for the parents when they can't reach their kids, right? My mother always tell me to call home if you are going to be late kind of things.

@aju007 most of the time that is about planning (e.g. dinner) but sometimes it can become too much, too intrusive.

I answer my calls but I know a few people who will see who is ringing them and will not answer saying I will call them back later. I think it is rude to do that.

Yeah it's rude. But actually he is not a person like that. His only problem is with the phone! I don't know why!

If you know that he has this habit, you should text him instead of calling him. At least he will read the message even if he does not reply.

I'm not much used to text messages as it cost me more than a usual phone call. But yeah I will try that out in some urgent conditions.

I do think he is just ignoring the calls. I am not sure. If a person has interest into someone, then you will take the call no matter or call back if not being answered.

Does your friend have voice mail on his phone so he can listen to a message to see if the call was important?

The voice mail thing is not much famous among here. But yeah one can send voice mail by prefixing a number but people rarely use it here. And the call is not automatically switched to voice mail if the user is unreachable. So probably he won't know the matter until the caller take an effort to try again.

I will answer any phone calls. Even if the phone numbers are unknown, but I still will pick up my phone. If they are scams, then I will just hang up. I don't want to miss an important call. Anyway, picking up a phone call will not charge me anything.

Yeah, I attend all the calls I recieve if I am not busy with work. Even if I am, I try my best to not miss a call, it doesnt cost us to attend a call aswell. But my friend I mentioned above doesnt!

@aju007 My father will not answer any unknown phone calls as he thinks all of them are scams. And in fact sometimes he doesn't answer mine. He doesn't hear it or he seldom check his phone calls. This is so annoying as sometimes I have important things to talk to him.

@youless Yeah I know how you feel. Try to make him understand the importance. If he didnt hear the rings, making the sound sufficiently loud may help.

my son does that...It is the little "you're not that important to me drama" I dont always answer mine if I dont reconginze the number or if I just sat down..if it is important the will leave a message.

Maybe he isn't the type of person who enjoys talking on the phone? How about texting him? Now that I have unlimited text messaging ~ I prefer people to text me rather than call. Sometimes I don't feel in the mood to talk so I don't pick up. If it's important the person will call back or leave a voice message. Or, I know the person talks for a long time and I am busy, I will call the person back afterwards.

@infatuatedbby Call charges are much less compared to texts. I can call about four.minutes for the money I spent on a single text. Yeah I get him after a two or three tries, as he may think it is 'urgent'

Same here, I too answer calls unless I am busy. But will try calling back after its over. I think he has to understand the need of the people calling him in my friend's case.

Half the time I don't hear my phone ring! I always answer it if it is someone I know. You never know if there is an emergency.

if he does not answer the phone, better he gives to another his mobile phone. That is unbecoming if he does not respond. What if he is not replied when he calls up somebody?

@aju007 I have only done this a few times because I've been mad at the person. But otherwise, I always answer my phone. My dad does this a lot and it seriously annoys me! He will never answer his phone if it shows an unknown number. So sometimes if I have ran out of credit so I use a friends phone or I call from a pay phone, he wont answer and it annoys me because I really need to speak to him. One of my "friends" does this too. I've been with her a lot and she ignores another friends phone call when she really needed her. Very selfish girl.

So he is not the only one. I think you shouldnt be doing that. Because people worry when they cant reach someone, especially someone so close.
