Another Sunny Day

United States
January 27, 2016 9:29am CST
The sun is shining brightly this morning and the snow is starting to melt a little. About half of the snow on my deck has melted and it's nice to see that big pile getting lower and lower. Schools are closed again today (that's 3 days in a row so far). My grandchildren are thrilled and have been enjoying playing outside. My daughter isn't as thrilled as they are running in and out, tracking in wet snow and she's getting tired of drying off the dog every time he wants to go play outside with the kids. I'm sitting here enjoying my coffee and thinking about those snow days when my kids had off from school. I had radiators in my old house and they were always covered with mittens, hats, coats and boots. They were perfect for drying those wet, snowy clothes. Even the cat would love to lay on the radiator. I really wish I had radiators in my house now as I think they do a better job of heating the house.

We had radiators in France, here the heating is in the floors. I love this system.

@ladyduck I have the heating vents in the floor in my house now. It's a combination heating/air conditioning and it blows dust everywhere

@Marilynda1225 That means you need to have the ducts or vents cleaned, Marilyn.

@Marilynda1225 We do not have vents, we have built in pipes in the floor where the hot water circulates keeping warm all the rooms. It is gas operated, very clean and effective.

I remember those snow days too and all the fun we had. I have never lived in a house with radiators but we just hung them in the laundry room.

Radiators - wow, a blast from the past...they were good for drying wet gloves and scarves too. No sun here, so you have an advantage. Enjoy your day.

What form of heating do you have? I have radiators heated by a gas boiler.

@jabouk what I have now is forced air heating/air conditioning & the vents are on the floor. It heats (or cools) the house but then it gets cold right away. With the radiators I used to feel the house stayed warmer longer and I had my chair right next to one

We never had those radiators, so I threw my kids' snow suits and mittens into the dryer. After lunch, they headed out again in nice warmed outerwear. As a teacher, I loved sleeping in on snow days, but disliked having to make them up at the end of the year, or worse, making them up during vacations. So I retired.

@DianneN my grandchildren have been home now for three days after the blizzard we had over the weekend. The buses are having a hard time with the roads but so far they are going back tomorrow with a delayed opening. Snow days are fun for both teachers & students but not if you have to make them up. I know you're enjoying being retired!

We have hot water heat, they are really small short rads, that keep the floors so nice and warm. And its a natural gas boiler, so its not too expensive to operate, we just had a new one installed last summer. I'm glad that your snow is melting, I read that online earlier today that last weekend's dump is melting, and that's good because there was just so much of it.
