Pumpkin's positive post: Looking on the Bright Side

Hello friends. How are we all today? I've been quite stressed recently but I've stayed as positive as I can. I was wondering about what happens to old online stuff when a website closes. Does it just disappear? Or is there some kind of archive into which it all goes, perhaps accessible to some computer-literat person? What got me wondering this was that I used to write at Bubblews. As many of you will know, it closed down a little while ago. I didn't realise that it was closing until it was too late, so I didn't get a chance to save anything I'd written there. That was a real shame because I had some nice poems, articles, and at least one story there. I'd also got a draft article, with which I was getting along quite well. I couldn't find my notes in order to start the whole thing again. That particular article was rather valuable to me. Oh well, I expect that I shall have to simply start again. As I said, I had been quite stressed recently. Partly due to trouble with finances. I think I may have mentioned previously that I'd had a lot of work done on a car, only to go and crash it. Well, I got another car. Of course, that's a lot of cash spent. I am also supposed to get paid weekly from work. They did not pay me last week. This meant that some bills came out when there was nothing there. Thankfully, I had saved a little bit so I could transfer that. Then more bills came out. I had to borrow some cash from my children. So I think myselft lucky that, although I was struggling, there was enough money available to cover everything. I've also been stressed about work. I'm sure that anyone who reads my posts regularly will know how I feel about my job. Just in case you don't know, I hate it. I'm a nursery nurse, mainly working in private nurseries or, as I call them, childcare factories. I have been struggling to make enough time for study, or for much else. Not necessarily due to long hours (although I do get long days sometimes) but more for the odd hours, or not being able to prepare. Well, I had a call today to ask if I'd be interested in an ongoing position in the next town. It's only for 5 weeks but that's 5 weeks of knowing what I'm doing, of the boys knowing what they're doing. It means they'll have to go to school on the bus every day but I can pick them up because I'll only be working mornings. I can fit in plenty of study time and gym time. Speaking of study, I'm finding that quite hard but, as I've said, it's been difficult finding the time (especially finding the time when I'm not so tired that I'm falling asleep in my books!) I'm also waiting for a mark for my most recent assignment. It's been about 3 weeks since the hand-in date. Most tutors take less than two weeks to send marks and feedback. This one seems to take as long as she feels like. It's not helpful when the feedback is supposed to be used to help improve work for the next assignment. Well, I'll just have to do my best. I'm in my final year and I will do this. As for final years, it's Mini's final year at primary school, and Midi's final year at secondary school. I don't yet now which secondary school Mini will be going to. He's got some exams coming up and he is struggling a bit with his maths. We're going to get him some books, recommended by the school, to help him with that. Midi has been offered a place at the 6th form (college) attached to the school he already attends but he also has an interview next week at a specialist 6th form college in the next town.. Mini is doing well at Cubs, and with rehearsing for Gang Show. He's looking forward to all the exciting things he'll be doing with Cubs. Midi is doing well at his drama groups. He's been nominated for a reward from there. It's a real achievement. Of course, I am very proud of both of my boys. The rest of this week, I am not working (as far as I know) so I shall try to study as much as I can. Tomorrow, I'm going to a quiz at a church. D's best friend is the minister there, and his partner (also a friend of hours) runs the quiz. Do won't go though, he says it's boring! That's OK, I'm taking Midi, my Dad, and my little sister @dougalrie . Mini will stay with my Mum while we're there. Friday night, Mini and I will go to my Mum's for dinner, then I'm dropping Mini off at D's to stay there while I got out ghosthunting with my big sister @dorypanda , and Teenpanda's girlfriend. I won't get much sleep, though, as I'll need to be up and out on Saturday to take Mini to a Cubs activity day! I'll need to remember to pack some sandwiches for that. He'll be working towards his 'science' badge, I think. That reminds me, I must take Mini's Cub jumper to D's so that D can sew on the badges. I don't think there's much else to say for now. I think I may have waffled. I was trying to say that everything is groovy. That was another thing - last night, I saw the stars. I mean, it's something that's always there but I really saw them, and looked, and noticed how beautiful the sky was. Today, I did the same with a flock of birds in flight, and then with a rainbow. The rainbow was like the most beautiful thing ever, with it's clear, deep, sharp colours. I just thought how lucky I was to be able to see such things. Speaking of lucky, I have mentioned D a couple of times but I haven't really said anything about him. He's awesome. He put some cash towards a new car, he offered to pay for Mini's school books, and he is very good at looking after me! He's been feeling rough but I think he's OK today. Well, that's all for now. I need to wash the dishes and make some dinner. I think I might watch 'Orphan Black' as I've just started watching that. Have a good day/night TTFN

Yes, a lot of things have changed for me over the past couple of years. Still some setbacks but I think I'm getting on top of most things! Hopefully, finishing my degree will herald a new beginning work-wise. But I am very grateful that I've got my lovely boys, a nice home, enough of what I need, and a wonderful man with whom to share my life.

You won't be able to retrieve your stuff, if the site has shut down.

You should be able to check by typing in a sentence from one of your Bubblews posts if you know the exact wording, and if it comes up you can retrieve it. However, probably all our Bubbles will have been de-indexed by now so you can re-use them if you have copies.

I don't have copies :( I usually just posted them directly, and those which I saved would have been on devices which no longer work! I have learnt my lesson, though, and I shall remember to save everything in triplicate just in case I may wish to use it in the future!
