What has MyLot Taught You?

What have you learnt here? I have learnt so much – mostly about snow and ice and cold weather such as I can't even begin to imagine. But I've learnt a lot of other things too.
I try to be accurate with what I write so I'm continually googling stuff to try to get my facts right or to get more information on places I've been but can't remember the details. I would read that someone was from Ohio or wherever but I had no idea where each US state. I can now name them all and know where they are. (I can give you the name of a great quiz if you're interested.) Same with Canada. Australia was a given.
Sometimes readers will correct me or add to what I've said and it becomes quite fascinating. Then there are all the side issues and distractions that come with an internet search. Do you go off looking for more information from time to time? And are you more knowledgeable now than before you joined the site? Do you want to share a particular something that you have learnt from this site?

Mylot has taught me that if I say bad words to people in a discussion I'll not be able to log in again
So I've become nice

There are some things I prefer not to learn!
I think it is part of the culture in Mylot that brings freedom of speech to every user.
If a person says that he likes to eat dogs, because that is his culture, so be it! I may not like it, but I have to accept that as the culture of someone else.

I've learned personally that what's happening to every one here in my country, is no different to what's happening to the rest of the world. I've learned people in other countries are just as ordinary as we are here. I've learned different cultures and everyday lives they spent as the posts come and go.
Most specifically, I've learned to type with out looking at the keyboard. mylot was the literally typing lesson for me.

This is the biggest lesson for me too - that we 'ordinary people' are much the same all over the world, trying to build a good life and be good people no matter where we live. And congratulations on learning to touch-type. That is a very handy skill to have.

I have learned a lot, too. I have learned how people live in other countries. I have gotten to see pictures of kangaroos in backyards, fabulous sunsets, and beautiful gardens all over the world.

For me? Mylot is just a great place to be. Sure I learn new things from time to time, and it's great to learn about different cultures. I can't particularly name anything I've learned though.

I have learned that you guys on the other side of the pond (in both directions) use different principle parts of verbs than we do in the U.S. Example: learnt and not learned. Such fun.

@MALUSE We have weak and strong verbs like German, but the German ones are more regular in their spelling. But then, the whole language is much easier to spell.

@MALUSE Who says we master it? We just guess and cross our fingers. I wish the founding father's vote to make German or English the national language had gone the other way. German is so much more logical and phonetic.

There is so much to learn here and getting it at a global level makes all the difference. Most important of all I have learnt that we are all the same no matter which part of the globe we come from.

@JudyEv The fact that I feel at home here except for few users who think they are superior shows that there is not much difference here. And that attitude about I am superior one sees that back home as well

@allknowing It is a shame if some think they are superior. Look on it as them having a problem rather than you.

Honestly, I don't read a lot of posts that contains news and politics even sports. Well a few news here and there but not really much. So i guess I did not learn that much with those topics. What i have really learned here is the use of proper punctuation and enhance my grammar.

It's good that you have been able to improve your English here. I now know a bit more about countries other than Australia.

@JudyEv yes you are so right and its strange because you would think that there would be somethings that are just universal but not really. I know americans are probably up there with the most offensive not purposely but we are intrusive in nature we are always seeking to know and we don't realize that not all cultures are cool with that. Also i find we are a very touchy affectionate kind of people where other cultures find it offensive.

@lokisdad Some American tourists come over as loud and brash which is a shame. I know Aussie tourists in Bali are considered rude and uncivil, and I'm sure this is true in some cases. Some Asian cultures think it's okay to ask how wealthy you are which is a no-no to us. And so it goes :)

@sueznewz2 They just eat the grass around the place and come into the garden if they want a drink or a nibble. There is other water available for them too around the place. And we do have dozens of photos of the roos - including about 2 dozen of this couple in various poses at the birdbath!
