Making money teaching conversational English on Skype?

It is a real thing and I know someone who does it. In fact, he and I have been friends for over two years now online and have met in person, so I do trust what he says. It is astounding that he made over $2000 in January helping Chinese students (from China and even students in the US) with their conversational English.
I hate to think of how many thirty minute lessons he did to earn that much. The hourly rate is pretty good though and the money comes through PayPal. The thing is, due to the time difference, he is often giving lessons in the wee hours of the morning or late at night. Not everyone can do this.
My friend was never a teacher or even a tutor, but there is a curriculum provided by the company and he uses that.
He did as many lessons as possible in January just to see how well he could do, but will ease off, bleary eyed probably to a more reasonable schedule.
Would you consider talking on Skype for money?

Native English speaker generally dont need to be english teachers to be able to teach the English language to non English speakers because generally these people aims to improve their communication skills in speaking English for the reason that they cant practice it on thier day to day dealigs with people. I have no experience on teaching through skype or being taught on skype but I am not a native English speaker and i want to improve my speaking skills by talking to the natives not only to practice to think and talk in English but also to develop my confidence in doing so . In turn, it helps minimize my stutters and it improved my sentence construction in English. If your goal is to master conversational english and on a tight budget I suggest that you download paltalk and go to their education section, choose the language you want to learn and start chatting , practicing on mic using English. It will also help you realize tbat its not only you who is having difficulty learning the language as the famous line " you are not alone" , a lot of you are struggling and are trying to improve as well.

I think these services are a good thing for people who want to improve their conversational English. I am sure there are many people on MyLot who would be helped to. I hope that may of them read your comment, or perhaps you could write a discussion about the subject.

I believe this is not for everyone since it means that people will need to work during unearthly hours due to the time differences. It does sound lucrative but there are sacrifices to be made so I cam understand what is involved here.
In the past, many people traveled to my country to learn the Chinese language since internet was unavailable but nowadays I have friends who like yours are conducting lessons via video chat programs.

I would not want to work in the middle of the night on it.

Yes, I have considered this, but I want to practice talking on Skype before I interview. I have applied to a company. Working in the wee hours might work out for me..since my internet which is metered, is free then, but I need some Skype practice first.

If I could fit this into my schedule I would totally do this. What company did he go through? I've heard of a few companies who do this.

My cousins daughter goes to So, Korea to teach conversational English to students. She also has no teaching experience and has done this for the past few years. Skyping sounds easier than flying to a foreign country to teach English

It certainly does, though you don't get to experience the culture.

One of our daughters is a certified teacher and, for a while, she worked online tutoring children in math in the evening. It is amazing how many jobs are available online. If I needed a job and couldn't find another one that I liked more, I would certainly consider one of these jobs. I think people are getting more creative about their work!

Sounds interesting, I know a couple of people that might be interested in doing that, I wonder how they find out more about it.

Many want to learn English and are willing to pay for it. The market is there for those from English speaking countries like America, UK, Australia. Some take it up as full time job and even base themselves in Japan, China, Thailand etc.
It is good that you have highlighted this opportunity to make money from home - siva
