How Bubblews made me a blogger

My mom got me hooked on Bubblews. I liked two things about it - making money, which was great, and also having a reason to write every day. I liked the fact that it encouraged short articles and actually paid me decently at first. It was a great way to practice being concise and understandable. I earned two $50 payouts before the site shut down.
I also archived and reworked a large amount of what I'd written. When the site folded, I decided that this would be a great basis for a blog. Since Bubblews was entirely gone, my content was all mine again. All I had to do was copy and paste what I'd archived, maybe edit a little, and post it on my own blog. So I got a Wordpress blog and started doing just that.
It's taught me a lot so far. It's taught me about creating good categories, making things appealing and eye catching so people will look in the first place, and how to find good royalty free graphics. Primarily it's an art blog but I have a lot of advice and thoughts about other things as well. It's been interesting to see what people find most useful, what's gotten the most attention. At the moment I have 47 regular followers and I've even seen people find my articles through Google searches.
Bubblews may have gone away, but what I learned there has lasted.
By the way, if anyone is curious, my blog can be found at

I wasn't talking about blogging here, I have my own blog. I own the material I had on Bubblews, since Bubblews doesn't exist anymore it can't.

I'm glad to read you got some good out of your time at Bubblews. I like to think I did as well. It was my first online writing site and I only joined at the encouragement of my students after we saw a feature on Arvind and the site on our in class news program. From folks on that site I learned about Persona Paper, now in its last days, and myLot.
I have attempted a stand alone blog a time or three, but just can't seem to get into a rhythm with them. And, of course, I have my book writing work.

@Rohvannyn Awesome that you finished your novel. Have you started looking for an agent or a publisher?

@DWDavis I published it on my own, through CreateSpace, with help of my partner who is quite a good amateur editor. I've sold a few paper copies and more ebook versions. I was pretty pleased with the results from CreateSpace.

I think book writing comes first, personally. Oddly enough, Bubblews also gave me the impetus to finish my novel - 4000 characters at a time.

I was on WordPress for a while. I tried blogging but didn't really keep up and had basically no followers. I started it when I was really young and naive about the whole writing world. As far as Bubblews, I'm glad you earned from that site before it got all corrupt and folded.

I was the same way with blogs before - I just never have anything to say. Thanks to cranking out several mini-articles a week, my blog now has all kinds of stuff, some of which is even useful.

@Rohvannyn You know I love those pictures. I'm proud to admit that I never totally got out of the picture book phase.

It's funny, but I stopped blogging because I could make money on my posts on Bubblews. I'm still slowly getting back to blogging.

Yes, although I have a lot of unpaid redemptions, it also gave me that first experience in blogging.
