How to cut your water bill in half!

My dad told me this story about a guy he knew. I don't remember his name so for arguments sake we shall just call him Ringo lol So one day Ringo decided he was going to put a leaflet into a lot of letterboxes. The leaflets explained that he knew how to cut water bills in half and if anyone wanted to know how to do so, were to send him money and he would send them back information how to do it. I don't remember how many people sent him money nor do I remember how much Ringo was asking for but he ended up in court because of this because it turned out that after people paid Ringo, he sent them a piece of paper with instructions on how to cut a water bill in half. The instructions were to pick up the water bill and cut with scissors lol After a short time in court, Ringo won the case because he did exactly what he said he would do. "Cut the water bill in half." The situation makes me laugh because it's so dumb lol I can't believe he won but I guess he figured out that loop hole before he made this smart ass move.

The English language leaves a lot to be desired sometimes - like the instruction to 'tear along the dotted line' that is written on some forms.

lol exactly right. I remember once my ex boyfriend was pretending to cry on it to give it a "tear." He was a jerk but he had his funny moments.

@VivaLaDani13 For Australians, we would mostly read it 'hurry along the line'. That English language problem again.

Was he sentenced for this ? I remember a guy who was offering a "definitive tool to get rid of flies, flees and any bug". People were receiving a little hammer with this instruction for use : "Target it and hit it hard". He has been released of the charges as he was delivering something conforming to his promises.

@Daljinder the hammer has many options and accessories, just add a few dollars more and they would include adjustable sights, a telescope , night vision goggles plus a retractable handle, free ship

I know about a lot of these, "misinformed" statements. Here's another: Ringo #1; "Hey, I"ll bet you $5 I can say the 50 states in under a minute" Ringo #2; "No one can say the 50 states in under a minute,so it's a bet" Ringo #1; "The 50 states in under a minute". "I did it, where's my $5"?

I guess I think the same way as Ringo just by reading the title and while waiting for the whole post to load, I was already composing a funny answer, but to my surprise the response that I was about to make is exactly the goal or the point of your discussion

I've heard of a similar one for eliminating your phone bill. The instructions were something along the lines of "Contact your phone company. Tell them you want them to disconnect your line".
