Digital Oops Challenge

Canada
February 22, 2016 10:01am CST
I first became interested in getting a digital camera back in 2005 when I joined a website that let me play with a camera and post photos. The site was Gather.com and its been gone for a long time. My son took me to the store and we looked at cameras, we bought a Cannon (I don't remember how much I spent but it was not outrageous) My son showed me how to use it, we took a bunch of photos and put them on the computer and I got to play with them , learning as I used the computer and camera. I was hooked. I was never without my camera and I used it every day. I learned how to fix and change photos too. It was good fun and to this day I still enjoy it. @JudyEv mentioned her husband who is posting “broken photos” on line. They want to see your mistakes, not your perfect shot. I thought that was a good idea. Today I posted a photo of a gull flying by me while I was on the beach, The sun was so bright when I tried to focus on the bird, I zoomed in and snapped a photo. Somehow I only got a piece of the Gull and it made me laugh. So do you have digital oops? Feel free to post them in a comment or join in on the challenge if you want too and make a post about your digital disaster. I will look through my files and find more – hopefully I haven't deleted them all.

@PaintOnSlate the biggest oops on digital was when our cat Sid got a bit too curious.

@PainsOnSlate Sid just popped up and right into the digital and it went off. I too like the result actually.

I've yet to look through any of my photos to join any of the many challenges floating about. I, too, have a Canon camera and I like it. It's a simple type, but suffices for what I need at present. If I ever take the time to learn photoshop, then my pictures might improve even more.

@PainsOnSlate I looked it up with the suggestion of another member, but couldn't find the right one or something. I think my security suite didn't like it and I have enough problems with malware and such that I let it be. Besides, I own a copy of photoshop, just never learned to use it yet.

@MarshaMusselman I considered going to the local college and taking a night course on photo shop, I have a copy too but It just wasn't worth my time because Photo Scape worked for me.

Look up PhotoScape, its free on the internet and so easy to use. Before my Mac, I used it for years. Sadly its not comparable with Mac and I miss it.

A photographer needs to take several shots until they are satisfied and those taken earlier could be ooops photos. I have many of them. Unless one gives them value and displays them then only could they be termed as disasters (lol) In your case if you had not mentioned about your desire to get the full bird into the photo no one would think it is a bad photo.

I changed the title, I was looking for photos that don't live up to our expectations. I like the photo but it isn't what I wanted...

What a great picture! The only oops pictures I have had are of my dogs and they are just blurs because they wouldn't stay still.

@PainsOnSlate It's frustrating at times because they just won't be still long enough.

I am not good at taking photos. I just lack the patience to wait for the perfect light or the birds or whatever. I rather just move around, and touch this or that.

HI Paints. I dont take many photos, not really any good camera at all. See, I dont think that photo you posted is broken lolz, rather a work of art. I happen to like the way the gull is coming into the pic.

I have been using digital since I started writing online in 08. I was at Gather also - didn't care for it, the guy in charge wasn't very bright - a year after I quit he was still sending me e-mails...hum...anyway, I don't think there is any such thing as a digital disaster.

@PainsOnSlate I think that was his name, he was always sending e-mails to the wrong people and if you asked him a question it took weeks to get back to you.

Funny I was thinking the same thing, I titled this post using the wrong word. Was it Chuck at Gather? He worked for all of us to make sure we were paid before the site closed.

Usually delete mine immediately. I've made plenty of oops. I'm on my second Cannon camera since the grandkids were born 7+ years ago and still don't know what I'm doing. My phone and iPad are much easier for me. I do like your photo!

I tend to delete my bad shots pretty quickly both on my digital camera as well as on my cellphone. I bought our very first digital camera in 2001, they've really improved them as time has gone on, all that one had going for it was that you didn't have to develop the pictures and you could alter them on the computer.

I don't see that photo as a disaster, as there's added interest and motion in having only part of the gull. I rather like it!
