Skype Crafts

Canada
February 22, 2016 1:26pm CST
I just finished a skype session with my granddaughters. I sent them an envelope in the mail with craft supplies and then we made some little dolls together on skype. What fun! The only problem was that I couldn't help them with the difficult parts. Luckily their dad was there to help. Next time I'll have to try something a little simpler. It's a great way to keep connected when we live far from each other. Do you have any little people living far from you? I'd recommend sharing something special on Skype. Even just reading a favorite book together this way would be a good bonding experience. I miss the snuggling on the lap part, but at least we can be somewhat together this way.

That's fun! I spent the afternoon outdoors with my neighbour taking pictures of Flat Stanley for her nephew. Do you remember him?

A few years ago we'd be writing more letters an sending photos by snail mail. This is more direct.

@Sheilamarie78 yup. I remember when I was still very young and my Dad is working in a different country, we record our voice expressing our thoughts or stories for him in a tape - called a voice tape. We then send it with a letter.

@nottoooldtowrite I remember doing that. It took more coordination and was a bit awkward. Did your Dad keep those tapes? They'd be fun to listen to now.

What a great idea! You can keep connected with the grandkids but in an active way - never thought of that!! We do have far away relatives, but our relationship is basically the way it goes on Facebook. When Hubby went on a business trip for a week one year (and that was a rare occasion), we really, really missed him - especially the kids - but Skype really helped keep us all in touch during that week.

I never used Skype. But I can see how it would come in handy for others.

@Sheilamarie78 None of my friends back home use it so it doesn't come in handy for me.

It certainly comes in handy for me. We don't use it often, but I'm always glad when we do.

We FaceTime, but I was so lucky to see my babies a little over one week ago. My son and family came to Florida for ice skating competitions which we went to. They spent the rest of their time at Disney World, which we didn't go to. After three days with them, we were exhausted!!! Lol! I love your idea!

My grands are in France, so visits are few. Having Skype is my lifesaver!

What a wonderful way to spend time with your granddaughters. I Skype once in awhile with my son and his family, and my grandson is always showing me his toys. He is 3 and I haven't seen him since he was just a baby

@Sheilamarie78 Yes that is why we started to use skype. My son, said my grandson needed to see me to know I was real.

Skype do really helps to bridge the communication with our loved ones. But you are correct the hugs and kisses (human touch) cannot be sufficed by this technology. I am here in Singapore and my parents and sibling are in Manila so its either we use skype or facebook.

What a great idea! I never would have thought of doing something like that. When I lived in Vegas, I used to skype with my grandchildren just to talk to them.

My baby granddaughter lives about an hour away. Her mom has her "call" me and she reaches for the iPad when she sees my picture talking to her!

This is a good idea. My brother- and sister-in-law frequently skype their grand-children in Egypt. It was especially valuable when the children were smaller and more likely to forget their grandparents' faces, etc.
