Is the Bible the word of God? Is the Bible only a book of good stories but nothing more? Please share your view of the Bible? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My personal belief is that it is the word of God and that it contains sound guidelines for our benefit. The information in it helps us to cope with the present life and gives us the hope of everlasting life in a better world.

It is God's book, as he is tthroughout the Bible. His word is true and the Bible is my only guide. I wouldn't be without my Bible, as I read it everyday.

@rosekiss Wonderflu! I have a weekly Bible reading schedule that is from 3-5 chapters. This week I have Esther chapters 1-5 to read and meditate on.

It is the inspired word of God, faithful to teach us both faith and life. Jesus is the living Word.

I believe the Bible is a collection of allegorical stories, history, myth, songs, poems, biography, and prophecy, as well as a pretty good set of rules to live by.

Good questions. I read the Bible in religious school, but no longer do.

Glad you think that I asked some good questions. What kind of religious school did you attend? If I may ask, why have you stopped reading the Bible?

@DianneN Thanks for sharing your background. I worked for 40 years for companies owned by Jewish people and many thought I was Jewish and where I live there are many different synagogues. I used to own Jewish Bible and it very much like the Christan Bible. Th Jewish Bible has 39 books and the Christian Bible has the same 39 plus another 27.

@1hopefulman I attended Sunday school, Hebrew School through Hebrew High School, and am Jewish. I also had a Bat Mitzvah. I don't feel the need to read the Bible anymore, although I pray morning and evening in both Hebrew and English. My Bible was quite different from those who have commented.

I always knew of the bible as stories told from points of views of many different people based on true facts. To me I have always used It as a self help book since I don't truly understand most of it anyway.

Wonderful! Is there any particular account that you find hard to understand? Do you have a question about something in the Bible?

I believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and our guidebook to live by. I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and since He is the author of the Book, I believe every word of it. It is just as important for us to read and study it every day, as it is for us to partake of our natural food. It shows us how to live and how to be ready for Heaven.

The Bible tells about God's plan with the earth, how he will restore the paradise, like was his plan from the beginning. Many prophecies are already fulfilled and some we see being fulfilled right before our eyes. He teaches us how to follow his ways of love. We really need his advice all the time..

So true! It is the best book ever written. Actually it is a collection of books, like a mini library that contains the most valuable information that mankind vitally and desperately needs.

I read the Bible cover to cover twice a year-to some that sounds like a lot, but I actually read very slowly. I think it important to get a contextual understanding of the book in this manner, and to prayerfully think about what is written, or there may be a natural temptation to create our own ideas and read them into the text. To some extent that still happens even with the most pure intentions, but that is another reason why it must be both read (the actual Writings) and studied (thought about), because as one goes on, in a teachable state of mind, they will learn.
