We've been married for 37 years, so I guess you can say we have a good relationship.

A good relationship involves trust, honesty, loyalty, and respect.
Trust - If you and your partner always doubt each other's activities, then you won't be partners for long. There will always be jealousies and insecurities, even if the other hasn't really done anything wrong.
Honesty - Be honest about your feelings and your thoughts. Be honest with your mistakes and wrongdoings. With honesty comes trust.
Loyalty - Linked to both honesty and trust. If you stay loyal to your partner, then there wouldn't be anything to lie about.
Respect - Respect your partner as a person. Respect their opinions, no matter how different it is to yours. Let's be honest here, even if you're partners, you won't always share the same ideals.
