I have been working on a baby dress for a gal at church. I love doing it as it brings me lots of pleasure.
It took me a lot longer than normal, as I didn't work on it only in the morning and at night, when I am watching Netflix.
I have been crocheting for 50 years, and I consider myself just s mediocre crocheted, as I have seen others that have made things that far surpass what I can do.
I think I might start an etsy shop, as I have been encouraged to do so. I can only try, and see how things go.

I was never a good crocheter. My mom could just pick up the yard, without using a pattern or instructions, and come up with some great things. This is a cute dress. Nice job!

@rosekiss ...Imagine doing it without. My mom would just figure it out as she went.

@celticeagle I wouldn't know where to begin. I envy those that can make things without a pattern.

@Morleyhunt Oh okay, good. I know it is on my iPhone as I took the picture with my phone and posted the discissuion. I had to edit it so it did take time to show up, and I am glad you see it now.

It takes a lot of practice to get it right, and yet I still make mistakes, tiny ones, but evne then I like to fix them, as I don't like to give something that has mistakes in it.

I am now doing a different dress, as there is a gal at church expecting a girl, and I have started a baby dress for her, that will take time to do, as it is made with real thin yarn. I am enjoying doing it though, and once I get it done, then I will make other things for the baby.

@Rosekitty Have never crocheted adult dresses, as I don't have any patterns for any. I might try it sometime though, but it sure will take a whole lot of yarn. I am hoping to get the baby things done before the baby shower in the summer. I think I can do it, but I really have to work at it.

I have seen others whose work is far superior to mine, but I will say that after I posted it in crochet addict through facebook, I got comment after comment, and over 1000 likes. I guess it is a hit. I have since sewed buttons in front and in back.

@ShyBear88 I taight myself to knit and crochet. I don't knit that much though, as I would rather crochet, as I can do that better, and I can make items faster, crocheting.

Do you have enough things made ahead of time to start your own shop there? I've no idea on how much stock you might need to begin with, but Kevin1877Uk has his own shop and might know more about it, unless you've already got those types of questions answered.
I'd rather crochet than knit although I've done both before. That baby's dress wouldn't be considered mediocre by any stretch of the imagination. I'm sure you are better than you think. Maybe the others that you've seen can only do that one thing that looks difficult and nothing else.
Have you ever done baby blankets with granny squares and the ripple -I don't remember the proper name, but it's done on the same blanket. I had a pattern for the blanket and saque, which is the open sweater, and booties. But it didn't come with a hat. I made a pattern for the hat and followed it and it worked out.
Back then, when I did these, it was before computers as we have them now. I always wanted to try to sell my pattern. Probably by now someone else already put one together, but I've not checked it out to see. I'd also want to try to make another following it to make sure I didn't miss anything.
If you're not familiar with the pattern I'm talking about, I'd have to search through my files to see where it might be.
I did find a link to share here and while doing so I decide to search on the swagbucks page. I'd not remembered how to change my default search to the same and it showed me how. So now, I can make more with swagbucks again.
Unfortunately it shows only the ripple part and not the granny square too, but it sounds like the same thing. Maybe I'll look for the whole ensemble later on.
The Green Granny Ripple Afghan looks like a typical ripple afghan at a first glance. But in reality, this crochet afghan is made much like a granny square. By skipping chains and making clusters, you will achieve this ripple effect.

thank you for the link, as I bookmarked I have made ripple blankets before, and a long time ago I did a granny square blankit. I don't have things made up ahead of time, as I have just been making them when I realize there is a baby coming. I know if I have the shop, I should have things made ahead of time. In fact, my daughter in law, suggested I amke baby things ahead, so when the baby comes, the things are done. I will be making more things before to long, as there is another gale in my church who is pregnant, and once I find out what she is having, I will crochet things accordingly.

@MarshaMusselman I think I have seen it too where things are in the etsy shop, but if they want another color than what is there, then the one with the shop, will make the item in the color or colors the customer aasks for. I might have to do that as well.

@rosekiss If you're doing blankets for any of these people, you can do the general colors of green or yellow or other colors too, that way you'd be ahead of the game. Many people these days are choosing to once again not find out the gender of the baby until T-time, so for some you may not know ahead of time anyway.
If you need stuff done ahead for the shop, then you can begin in either color and if they aren't needed by friends or family, then you'd have something to sell on Etsy possibly? I guess it depends on your funds and time it takes to make each item.

That is way too precious! I love this so much! You so should make an Etsy shop! I keep telling my grandma to start one because she has been going crazy with the crochet business. I used to have a crochet dress that was for a baby doll and it was multi colors and pastel and so pretty. I love to crochet as well but I am still very much an amateur but I did have a little shop going on for a while and actually made over 100 bucks for it but I had to stop to pay attention to school. As a person with experience, you should totally go for it! People love handmade items!

@DesirousDreamer I think they would. My daughter tolkd me that I should to it too, as I might make money from it, and that is the biggest ting, is I wonder if I can or not, since others crochet items too, and put them on their etsy shop. I guess I will know though, unles I give it a try.

That is what I am thinking too, but I have the fear of not being able to sell to much, or not sell anything at all, and that is becasue there are others out there with an etsy shop that do handmade crochet items too. I want to make sure that it is the right thing to do before i do it.

@rosekiss Just try! Make a facebook page and share it to all your friends! Ooh, you could even make cute little business cards or flyers and hand them out at your church, I'm sure a lot of people would love it!

Just look for patterns on the internet, and you might find the one that you really like. I have made this dress several times, and it has been one that everyone has liked. I love making it, as it isn't hard at all, I mad this one a little bigger becasue the baby is already months old, and I want her to be able to wear it for awhile.

I taughter myself how to crochet at the age of 18, as I bought some learn how books, and followed the illustrations, and that way, I was able to learn all the stitches. I enjoy doing it, as it gives me great pleasure to give whatever I have made to the new mothers. They appreicate them as well, and it also gives me a great blessing to help others.

@crazyhorseladycx I guress that wouldn't be bad as long as I have things made up ahead that is. If I have to do them when they ask for them, it wold take awhile to get one done. The more I think about it, having an etsy shop sure would put money in my pocket, and I can sue extra money, that is for sure.
