Crocuses Are Up!

I wrote a post this morning about the signs I've noticed that spring is here. Later on I was out and noticed our crocuses are popping up in the grass. Sometimes I don't notice them because they grow right up between the dead blades of grass by the side of the house. Often the deer come by and nip them off before I get a chance to see them at all. I saw one white one and one purple. I have to investigate the other side of the house yet to see whether any have come up out there. I'm on my way out shortly and will look for more treasures coming up. (I saw violets when I was babysitting at a friend's house yesterday.)

Still it sounds as if you're enjoying your vacation. We have two cherry trees here. They won't bloom for a while.

@Sheilamarie78 Whew! My son was at our house today and told me that nothing was in bloom. I'll bet he didn't check my crocus area!

My flowers are slow to appear. I have seen many posts of flowers that have shown up early. They are lovely.

@ElusiveButterfly That's where I grew up and spent a large part of my life. Spring come later there than in many places, but it has its own special beauty.

@Sheilamarie78 Yes, there are many beautiful flowers here as well, and most of them bloom throughout the whole year. I guess all of us can enjoy some different experiences from the nature.

But then your flowers are probably even more showy and colourful I'll bet! We all can enjoy the beauty that's around us.

Summer must be a long season for you. It must be beautiful, too.

Are there any differences you notice between one season and the next? Do the animals behave differently?

@Sheilamarie78 If left alone, animals would mate so the young are born in the spring. The joeys start poking their heads out around September/October. We have autumn leaves but not to the same degree that you folks seem to. And there are more flowers around in spring but there are also lots of flowers all through the year.

Same here. We've seen some moths and a swarm of mosquitoes. Nothing biting yet, though.

Good hunting, once you get your focus you will find wild flowers everywhere! I have recently returned from the UK and was amazed at the mass of daffodils and primroses I saw there. Here it is anemonies for Spring but they are passing their prime now.

We are a bit behind Europe in seeing spring flowers. There are some around but they're not yet everywhere.

No crocuses, but the snowdrops are blooming. I've seen them in two spots now.

My neighbour has had snowdrops for a few weeks. I should plant some as they are always the first.

I'll bet you've seen a lot more since then, too, by now. We still only see a few but they're coming more and more.

Our yard is too shaded to have much of a garden, but spring does seem to have crept up on our neighbours in town. My mother had daffodils on the table for Easter, over the weekend. I guess they bloomed sometime last week.

I took a few pictures yesterday of my peony cage. I don't remember which discussion we talked about it on, so I'm putting the images here. I'll do two comments to have two images for you. This first one is a side view-the two aren't too much different. I'm not protecting any plants with mine, just put them into dirt so I could snap the pictures.

THis one is an upper view. The stakes can be forced into the ground at any height, if the ground is soft enough. I'd think this could help your flowers some, but you wouldn't be able to put it over all of them if the deer bother a lot of your plantings. These come in two sizes, this is the smaller of the two. There are three 'legs' to hold it up and they can be moved if needed.

How nice for you. There is still too much snow here but I am sure with the warmer weather the next few days, some crocuses will be popping up on lawns. They seem to bloom almost as soon as the plant breaks through the ground.
