Just read a news where a relative of a famous actor and politician hanged herslef and commited suicide. She was divorced and staying alone without any help. Really wonder if loneliness is worst than the problem of cancer today.

I can only say that I would far rather have cancer and be among friends and family than be healthy but have nobody to love or be loved by.

Exactly. At least we get somebody to share our pains even if we are about to die.

@owlwings The question is: why would a person has nobody to love and be loved? That person must have a very nasty character or very selfish to make himself so friendless and alienate by everyone. If we have no family, we can always make friends and help others. When we do that, we will have friends, and our friends will help us when we get sick.

@scheng1 Loneliness is a state of wanting friendship and company and, for some reason, not being able to find it. Most lonely people are neither nasty characters or any more selfish than the rest of us. They are often people who have cut themselves off, often for reasons which are beyond their control. They may, indeed, be loved but for certain reasons, cannot accept that love. Conversely, those who are very selfish or, as you put it, have 'nasty characters' very often aren't lonely at all - they may be unhappy but it is not usually because they have no friends.

Loneliness could be dangerous and depressing unless the person likes being a loner. Cancer is dangerous too but has a possibility of getting cured.

I think loneliness can be worse especially in you have no one to talk with.

@singlaprachi Loneliness can be more destructive than cancer if you have no one to be there for you.

Loneliness is something within our ability to overcome. That means we can go out and make friends, and do something that is good for others. There are many volunteers who are happy because they are helping others. As for cancer, it is not within our ability to overcome. We have to go to the doctors and undergo surgery and treatments to get well. it cost money, our time, and we will be in pain.

Rightly said dear. Curing loneliness doesn't cost anything, rather you just need to be friendly and happy go person.

I think loneliness is the culprit for hanging oneself. Cancer is one of the contributory factor. It may lead to depression.

Probably, loneliness is a lot worse than cancer. Most people that have cancer have love, support, and prayers from family and friends. Lonely people have no one and nothing. You can also feel lonely in a crowd. Loneliness is worse devastation than cancer.
