With every passing day my knowledge of English is being improved with the help of Mylot.
Some of the new words and expressions I learned here today are 'flunked','give someone the creeps','hearken back','no brainer','worn to a frazzle'.....
I came across these words and expressions in the posts by users who are native English speakers.
Now I am going to note down these words in my notebook.

@pgiblett @Jessicalynnt,who is a native English speaker, says that they use these phrases and words without thinking about them anymore. Is it possible?I am surprised to know that even native English speakers commit mistakes. How is it possible?

@pgiblett Now I can understand why my English teacher had once said to me that I may learn English very well, but can never have the same authority over the language as someone whose mother tongue is English. You may sometimes have confusion over the pronunciation, meaning or use of words, but you talk fluently in English. This is something we can't do.We have to think before speaking a sentence.I had once met an American tourist who told me that the way I pronounce the word 'rice' is wrong. He also tried to teach me how to pronounce it,but I could not follow.

Good job! That is an excellent bonus of coming on here. What does "worn to frazzle" mean the way? I feel like a big part of learning is also learning English little sayings that dont really make sense. Of course I cannot think of an example when put on the spot. Lol!

@Jessicalynnt,I must thank you for it is from your posts that I learned many new words and expressions.I t read your posts attentively and know the meanings of new words and expressions from online dictionary.Thereafter I refer Collins Coubuild dictionary to know what context these words are used in.English is your mother tongue,my friend. You can play with English words. But we, who are not native speakers of English, have to be very careful while writing in English.

@Jessicalynnt Perhaps we all do exactly the same with our mother tongues. Here in India we mostly use slang while talking in Hindi.I have a friend from France. He has learned Hindi, but sometimes he fails to make out what we are saying. But how can I ask you?To me,whatever you have written is right, grammatically correct. How can I know if you have written something that doesn't make sense.
