One of my hobbies is woodworking, I just finished a storage bench and book shelf for my hall. I was pretty proud of it, seeing that my husband didn't help me at all. I usually ask for his advice since he is really good at it. Any one do any woodworking. What's the project your most proud of?

I tried wood burning,, do you know how many times I burnt my fingers ?? I have been looking for some free help on the web, do you know of any sites, the sites I found just told me to basically trace from a picture. Is there any place that shows you how to do the shading and stuff?? I would really like to keep it up it was fun

I've always enjoyed woodworking myself and have done a few prjects myself. Recently my lates project was small project to dress up an old light fixture over head in my kitchen. I'll post pictures of mine later today. Maybe you could do the same, we could get a woodworking subject rolling and escape from a little of the political and domestic issues.

I've worked on a few projects over the past few years since I bought a house. But my workshop is in a separate building from the house and is uninsulated. With Canada's cold winters I have to be really motivated to go out and start a project!
My most recently completed job was a mantle clock I made for my mother. The body is cherry and the face the clockworks are set into is birds-eye maple.

I do some woodworking but my husband loved it. He made most all of his Christmas Gifts himself. Do you get your patterns online or elsewhere?

Like your husband, my husband does not require a pattern either. He is good. I need a pattern to do woodworking. I can make thinks by sewing witout a pattern. Well sorta, I acturally make my own pattern from newspapers. I have gotten to be quite good at it.

I like to do woodworking too! I've made a lot of different stuff over the years. I used to build a lot of victorian twig furniture, mostly tables embellished with grapevine. I've also made other types of tables the traditional way. I have my own shop with table saws, mitre boxes and all. Some of the stuff I've been doing lately is repairing woodwork, trim and etc on the century home I live in. I've redone the framing on the windows (outside), re-built new door jambs, and quite a few other things. I've always enjoyed working with wood and building things, it's fun and relaxing as a hobby. The hardest thing I ever built was a roll-top desk, whew...that was definitely a challenge, but worth it. I think when we women put our minds to it we can do anything that we want to, and do a great job of it too. If you ever get time, you ought to take a picture of your storage bench and the book shelf and share with us...you GO girl!!

Jeeze ,, you sound pretty handy around the house. Not too many woman get into woodworking, i think its fun. I am still afraid of some of the tools but I am getting use to them.
Wow you built a roll top, that must have been quit the accomplishment for you. Isn't it a great feeling when you stand back and look at a finished project. I will take pictures tomorrow and post them.
Women can definetly do anything they put their mind too. Thanks for sharing

Yes I do wood working and I just finished a few projects one that I really like is a table from wood a guys was going to throw out. Across from my house there is a building and the people who bought the property decided they did not want all the wood that was inside it because it was rough never been planed down so they had all this wood in a pile and were getting ready to burn it so I asked if I could go through the pile and pick the good wood out of they said ok.
So after I got about half way to the botom of the pile I found cherry wood poplar, red cedar, black walnut peacan, oak, western red cedar, heart pine and allot more I stacked wood 3 foot tall on a 20 foot long trailer and drove to the house. there is at least $3000 worth of wood FREE!
Well I took the heartpine and planed it down and it was awesome I built this table from it. See picture I still ahve not put a finish on it because I wanted to make sure it was dryed and use to the climate in the house.

My first 2 projects from junior hish school shop class a cutting board, and a mahogany jewelry box. Both items are still in the hands of the people I made them for and they are cherished by them because they were for mom and dad.
