I was chatting the other day with my friend when she asked me what my talent was. Well, I happen not to be really sure what it is so i jokingly said i didn't have any. But later on, i got myself puzzled. How do you know that something in you is a talent? Could it be that you have it, but are not aware of it? am confused.

@makaujackson,I can tell you how I came to know that I can be a writer. My mother tongue is Hindi and I love Hindi literature. At a very young age I had written many short stories and poems in Hindi.Later on I developed a keen interest in reading great Hindi novels and had no difficulty in understanding them properly. All this made me reach the conclusion that I am made for literature, especially Hindi literature.I then began writing in Hindi. My articles in reputed Hindi magazines received an encouraging feedback from readers. That way I came to know about my talent.

@makaujackson Thanks.I am fortunate to be blessed with surroundings conductive to my area of interest.I am born in a family that loves literature.I was given the opportunity to buy great literature and gradually I discovered what my talent is.

Good for you. Some of us wait for years before we know what our talents are.

In my case it was all by accident. I just do not know how I realised I could do flower arrangements, design homes and gardens, compose poems and a few other things I spend time on these days.

During my pre-school age i used to draw on a small blackboard my father nailed behind our front door. I drew cartoon characters which i copied from the newspaper using chalk. So my parents decided to have me mentored by my cousin who is also a very well known artist/painter. So thats how i discovered that i have a talent in drawing/painting.

My writing is one of my best talents. I can tell a good story and I can explain things well. I love the English language and I have a pretty good command of words. I used to be able to sing and dance pretty well, but as I get older, those things sort of fade away. But my writing continues. :)

A talent is something that you love to do and can do well.

Both.
I know I have a talent for something if I know I'm good on it and I get the same feedback from others. It could also be that I'm good in doing something without me knowing it, but people around me notice my expertise on it.

You can have many abilities, and many talents. Some are stronger than others. I believe you have to look for what your passion is. I had a presenter at a job training tell me I was passionate about children. I do not necessarily agree. It is twenty years later, almost. I have come to realize I am passionate about people. Young or old, each has a story, each needs to be treated with dignity and understood. I think my talent, when I exercise it, is listening. I have a lot of skills and interests, but that is my talent.

Joking is already a talent because not everyone knows how to tell a joke. Some people are just so boring to be with just because they never know how to be fun with others.

I think what the one member said, it is something you are passionate about and you are good at or naturally learn this talent easily.
You don't have to be an expert in this talent though. Like ever since I was a child, I wanted to learn to dance, but wasn't allowed to take lessons. But I had such a desire, that I would try to teach myself (and got hurt many times) then when I became an adult, a friend offered to teach me some steps and now I struggle listening to music without tapping my feet. But by no means, would I be able to go on shows like "Dancing with the Stars" that is way out of my league.
