A World Full Of Scammers

Sadly our world is full of not very nice people trying to scam and trick us out of money and information everyday. We see it all the time at work, people phoning up to be microsoft (I feel really sorry for microsoft as they have to be one of the most impersonated companies in the world) or one of our suppliers, to gain access to sensitive information. As a result to this barrage of scams and cons coming in I have developed a mentality that if I want something I obtain it and all cold callers are ignores, this way I stay as safe as humanly possible. The sad thing is that these fraudsters do succeed and con people out of money and information which I find really sad. Is there a solution to this problem, sadly I fear not and we just have to be on our guard all the time.

I have a feeling that the only way to change it is to reduce the collective cost of living. The simple fact is that people have needs and are willing to engage in any activity that grants those needs, even if it deprives others of their earned rights to them. If the cost of living goes down, then more money will become available naturally. The main problem is that the cyclical nature of spending that was positive in the past is a curse now. Energy costs continue to go up and that siphons the wealth that would have paid for other things, as well as making those other costs go up as well because people need to pay for them. If they can be made to go down or become non-existent (which is possible over time) then people can afford more. For now any of that seems like a distant fantasy because it largely is. The world is structured wrong and will continue to be wrong until it changes.

Profit, profit, profit! That's all they think of, it's the only thing important for them. They do not care about others anymore and I hate it when people get so desperate they just want to get your money out of your pocket. We have to let karma do its thing and punish these culprits!

There isn't a day that goes by that my phone doesn't ring and theres a telemartketer on the other end The frustrating part is my fax machine rings a lot too. The telephone company put my fax number instead of my regular home phone number, ugh!

The scammers keep coming up with new ways of convincing people that they are genuine. It is a shame that people still fall for their tricks.

I don't really see any solution to this problem except to be vigilant at all times.

I ignore cold-callers, whether at the door or by telephone. Even if they are offering a service I desperately need I tell them (starting politely, then becoming less so) that I am not interested in what they have to offer. Personally I will find either people I know or search for services and get a quote from 3 or 4 people before getting the work done.

I do screen my calls too. I heard if you say yes on the phone to anything they can make a tape that has you saying yes to their offer and it's legally binding. So I just don't take calls from those I don't know or not doing business with.
