In our garden this morning

It has been drizzling and cool most of today. There is just the two of us here and we don't make a lot of noise as we go about our daily 'grind'. This morning I went to open the curtains in the lounge and spotted a doe and her joey in the garden. I called Vince to bring his camera. We have dozens of photos of 'our' kangaroos but it is always difficult to get good photos so we never pass up the opportunity to try to get more. I hope you like this one. The mother of this joey is one of two does who are reasonably happy to ignore us and our activities. Hopefully as time goes by more will become accustomed to us and less inclined to hop off. I hope to post again tomorrow but at some point we will leave to help out at a horse endurance ride and from that point on I might be away for some ten days without internet. So I'll catch up at some point once we get back.

I had to travel all the way to Cairn from India to see a hopping kangaroo and you have them at your doorstep With a camera having a zoom feature one can capture animals who would otherwise not be seen at close quarters.

That's very true but we didn't need a zoom for this little fellow. We did crop the photo a little. Zoom lenses certainly give you a lot more scope.

I live in Penrith CBD when in Australia so I often see Kangaroos in nearby parks. It's really so difficult to take good pictures of this Jumping Jack but I have managed a few good ones.

@suni51 Are you going to put up one (some) of your photos here? People are really intrigued by our native animals.

@Lucky15 We are leaving very shortly and for the next three days we'll probably have to get up at 3.45am. I think we might need a nap in the afternoons if we get time.

@JudyEv No kangaroos in this part of the world. I would love to visit Australia but the fare is too expensive

@marguicha Even for Australians to go from one side of the country to the other is expensive.

Frankly speaking, I haven't seen a kangaroo up close. I wish I could see one in the future. I like the snapshot.

We're in the south-west corner of Western Australia. Although my profile says 'Bunbury' that is our nearest big town. We are inland a little and south-east of Bunbury.

@gofsey I'm not sure which one he is but there were about 30 down the paddock this afternoon. I will know the mother if I see her but there is nothing to distinguish the joey from all the others. Some have white markings on their heads.

It's so nice that you always see the wild animals there. It's good that sometimes the animal just ignore us, so we can take a clear picture of them. The flowers in the picture look special to me. Do you know what kind of flower is it? Hope you'll enjoy your trip!

This is the joey. The doe is a bit bigger. The bucks are very much bigger but don't come into the garden. They are very timid.

@SIMPLYD They are timid until they get used to humans then they can become dangerous. :)

We saw some in a zoo in Austria so possibly they are in English zoos too. They seem quite tolerant of varying climates.

@Jessicalynnt Search/rummage. The common saying was 'fossick for gold' and 'gold fossickers' were men who went off searching for gold.

Are kangaroos like our deer? They tend to move off when humans are around, but if we move slowly and establish ourselves as non-predators, they sometimes ignore us and go back to grazing.

The roos are exactly like that. You don't get a second chance though. Once they decide to leave, they rarely stop and think about it. They just go.

The kangaroos disappear into the bush very quickly if something a bit different is happening. One of their survival skills I guess.

What an adorable sight. I would love to see a kangaroo (outside a zoo) but the odds are slim. We want to travel over the next few years but Australia is too far away.
