As the title says up there, do you rent or own your own home? im surprised that only 30% own their homes in my country, some sites put it less. But with the impossible prices who can afford it? Im so looking forward to the day l will own my own home, l know l will, im working towards it,but the statistics are piled against me. Do you hope to own your own home are you working towards it and if yes,how close are you to your goal? What plans are you undertaking to achieve your goals? My plan is simple, win the lottery lolz

My husband and I have bought a house. It is a fixer upper, and it is the only thing that we could afford. We renovate one room at a time, and we are not done yet. The kitchen and the bathroom are 50 years old, we can't afford to buy new things, but we have fixed most of the things that didn't work.

@miniam A fixer upper is a house that needs renovation. We call them 'haandvaerkertilbud' in Danish, and directly translated that means 'a cheap house suitable for people who have the skills to renovate houses on their own' or something like that. Yes, we will get everything done eventually When we bought the house it looked terrible. We had to start from the beginning and we had to repair the walls before we were able to apply new wallpaper. I don't have much experience, but my husband taught me how to do it.

I live with my parents. It's a usual thing here in my country. I am not planning to get a house of my own since it's a tradition in the family to give the house to the youngest child. I am the youngest that's why.

@ida123 Well my Dad is the youngest among his siblings so he was the one who got the house. Now I am the youngest so they said it should be mine. But my parents gave both my siblings their own. So it's still fair I guess.

@LdeL0318, In our family, our house will not be given to anyone, it is ours, own by all siblings, we don't like that idea that the youngest own it, it's very unfair for us who are not the youngest, lol. and that's what we agreed.

@LdeL0318 I see but in our case, my parents divided their properties already, each of us was given a share but the ancestral house was not given to anyone, we are all the owners because if one of the siblings will come home from far place, they can stay there.

I owned a home. I acquired this during my first year of work through installment at P1.5 M for 10 years. I had many sidelines before like part time in a non-life insurance company. I was able to buy a second car through commissions.I had many sidelines when I was a new teacher. i felt bored of teaching.I discovered my potential in selling non-life insurance. This time, I am a broker of the International Marketing Group sister company of the World Financial Group based in United States. i love to engage with many people , and have much money through hard work.I am a workaholic.

We are lucky enough to own our own home but many Australians will never have that pleasure. House prices here are out of most people's range.

l do watch a program in NBC, dont even remember the name, it`s people migrating abroad, and i see homes in Australia are so costly,a million is no big deal if looking for a home there

@miniam There are a lot that are less, especially in the country, but still expensive for 'normal' people with kids and average jobs, etc.

I own my own home and now am helping my son to buy his own home. He is doing it at the right time as the prices are starting to go up again. He will be paying less for his mortage than he would renting.

Haha I like your plan. Mine is the same way. I dont own but rent. Renting kind of screws you over too but you dont need super great credit to do so. I want to buy a house but I definitely need much more money saved up. How about you?

@miniam In the trailer park, you rent the land, but own the trailer. If I really wanted to, I can move my trailer anywhere if I have my own plot of land.

Why would you rent if you have your own place?
