Howling Dog Must Die!!!

As of this day, I didn’t sleep well since a dog from our neighbor keeps on howling. There is a saying from old folks that once a dog howl, the can see ghosts roaming around. The weirdest thing, if the dog does the howling sound, it must die. It has been a belief in my country for so many years. But then, things changed for young generations, they don’t believe on this old practices. I just feel so weak this day since the dog started to howl early in the morning. I don’t have the guts to tell the neighbor about it. Since it is not my own business to control the situation. What do you think should I do?

It is the situation that leads to a dog howling. The situation must change. Killing a dog because it howls is the most cruel thought I can think of. I love animals.

I agree. They can't express. How can we assume that it is a ghost that they saw?

@allknowing It was an old practices and I do think that they don't kill the howling dogs nowadays. I hope the course of action should be given by the owners soon.

Better to start to howl at the dog. Might give it such a fright it just might stop howling.

Very bad neighbor, inconsiderate, they should have released their chained dog. That dog howls because he wants a mate.He is on his mating period or time. That dog should have been given freedom.Sorry friend you lack sleep.I guess you now feel groggy for when we lack sleep , we feel that way.

I don't understand why the howling doesn't bother the dog's owners. If that was my dog, I would definitely put a stop to the howling. If it continues, you might want to say something about losing sleep.

@CRK109 I agree with you my friend. It has been weeks that the dog is howling. I am not sure if they pretend that their dog is not disturbing. I hope they will be sensitive enough to stop it.

@Shavkat I'm so sorry that you have neighbors who can be like that. I don't understand common courtesy to neighbors. I guess I was raised differently and I feel awful for you.

Don't say that. If you put this comment on FB, you will get a lot of rant from the dog lovers and pet owners. I am a doctor of animals (veterinarian) and howling has many meaning. Abroad, howling dogs mean they are singing and the owners love it. It is not true that howling dogs can see ghosts, though they say that the eye discharges (muta) of these dogs give them the sight for ghosts

@Yar_Joey Well, it was an old practice. I am sure when you were not a vet med my friend, you also believed the old beliefs of the old folks. I don't also believe in this sense because I am also in a medical profession.

I think I can file a complaint in a local government unit. I will try to talk to them. If it cannot be resolved, then I will ask an assistance with the local officials in my place. Thank you for your suggestion.

Here in my place, they say that if the dog keeps on howling, someone will die from that house. It's scary though.

@LdeL0318 That's also one reason why they wanted to kill the dogs. It brings omen to the people who owns the dog.

@Shavkat Ohh ... thats how our elders interpreted their howlings but i read somewhere that the male dogs howling is his serenade to a female dog in heat.

According to the elders, it refers to having an omen to the dog's owner. A sign that a member of the family will die.

I did not know about that ~ luckily I don't hear any dogs howling in my area.. I hope the dog stops tonight so you can have a better sleep though! I don't know what I would do in your situation though as it is hard to control an animals howling.

@Shavkat same here, same here. When three of my grandmothers die, I knew it before the phone call reached us. it is because of the howling of dogs.

@ida123 Dogs are good in serenading their mates, too. I think cats do the same thing at night. At least, I can get their attention to go away.

Well, if you can't talk to your neighbor maybe the local "barangay" or local official can do the job for you. When I'm at my province the dog howls every time the train would pass this is a large dog so the sounds really sounds creepy, but the neighbors got used to the howling,.

How about using some earbuds? Those are inventions too. In ancient days, such things were not there, and the only way people could get good sleep was by putting the dog to sleep. Not everything that was ancient had good logic behind it. Perhaps, even the dog must have got scared. Surely, helplessness on their part which they can't communicate should make us be sympathetic towards them, rather than wanting them to die. I doubt if they saw ghost. It must be something that scared them, or they are in pain, gripes?

I was thinking that dog must have also hungry. But I refused to suggest such doubt. So I think they are afraid of something.

What you should do is go talk to your neighbor about it. Clearly it is giving you problems. Talk to the owner of the dog, see what can be done (other than killing it) to stop the dog from howling. There's always a reason for a dog to howl and it should be your business since you are the one who needs some good night sleep. Just approach the owner in a calm and inquisitive manner.

Here in our province , the belief is that when the dog howls , somebody will die . Oh my ! But i don't believe that . They howl because they are in a heat and is looking for a mate .
