As of this day, I didn’t sleep well since a dog from our neighbor keeps on howling. There is a saying from old folks that once a dog howl, the can see ghosts roaming around. The weirdest thing, if the dog does the howling sound, it must die. It has been a belief in my country for so many years. But then, things changed for young generations, they don’t believe on this old practices. I just feel so weak this day since the dog started to howl early in the morning. I don’t have the guts to tell the neighbor about it. Since it is not my own business to control the situation. What do you think should I do?

It is the situation that leads to a dog howling. The situation must change. Killing a dog because it howls is the most cruel thought I can think of. I love animals.

@allknowing It was an old practices and I do think that they don't kill the howling dogs nowadays. I hope the course of action should be given by the owners soon.

Very bad neighbor, inconsiderate, they should have released their chained dog. That dog howls because he wants a mate.He is on his mating period or time. That dog should have been given freedom.Sorry friend you lack sleep.I guess you now feel groggy for when we lack sleep , we feel that way.

Don't say that. If you put this comment on FB, you will get a lot of rant from the dog lovers and pet owners. I am a doctor of animals (veterinarian) and howling has many meaning. Abroad, howling dogs mean they are singing and the owners love it. It is not true that howling dogs can see ghosts, though they say that the eye discharges (muta) of these dogs give them the sight for ghosts

I did not know about that ~ luckily I don't hear any dogs howling in my area.. I hope the dog stops tonight so you can have a better sleep though! I don't know what I would do in your situation though as it is hard to control an animals howling.

@infatuatedbby It was an old belief but this is not being practiced. I think it can be controlled.

Unfortunate you were kept awake my friend.
It is something when the owner will not see why the dog is howling.

Well, if you can't talk to your neighbor maybe the local "barangay" or local official can do the job for you. When I'm at my province the dog howls every time the train would pass this is a large dog so the sounds really sounds creepy, but the neighbors got used to the howling,.

How about using some earbuds? Those are inventions too. In ancient days, such things were not there, and the only way people could get good sleep was by putting the dog to sleep. Not everything that was ancient had good logic behind it. Perhaps, even the dog must have got scared. Surely, helplessness on their part which they can't communicate should make us be sympathetic towards them, rather than wanting them to die. I doubt if they saw ghost. It must be something that scared them, or they are in pain, gripes?

What you should do is go talk to your neighbor about it. Clearly it is giving you problems. Talk to the owner of the dog, see what can be done (other than killing it) to stop the dog from howling. There's always a reason for a dog to howl and it should be your business since you are the one who needs some good night sleep. Just approach the owner in a calm and inquisitive manner.

Here in our province , the belief is that when the dog howls , somebody will die . Oh my !
But i don't believe that . They howl because they are in a heat and is looking for a mate .

Just be thankful it is not roosters. Roosters are much more worst, they wont make you sleep at all.

@CaptAlbertWhisker Luckily, the roosters on the other side neighbor don't make a sound. I think they are not legible to fight in a derby.

Dog owners must stop their dogs from barking or howling unnecessarily.. Your neighbour is not being considerate ..
