Trying To Find a New Routine

United States

When my daughter and her family moved in with me a few weeks ago my life went from being organized and predictable to busy and totally unpredictable. I used to have my routine every day and rarely varied from it. Now, life it pretty much "go with the flow" every day and I'm still trying to find a balance. The past few days have left me with little to no computer time but I'm not really complaining as I was busy doing other things. My life has gone from being pretty quiet and boring to anything but quiet and certainly not boring anymore. Adding two adults, two grandchildren and two dogs to the household has given my 94 year old mom and me a whole new routine and a lot more to talk about. Our quiet and pretty dull life has now turned into a merry-go-round of activity and I never realized how quiet and dull our life had become. As I sit here armed with my second cup of coffee I have some computer time to catch up a bit with all myLot friends. What's happening on this Friday in your neck of the woods?

I am extremely busy and hurried today Marilyn..not something I like to be. I need a routine, but everything is always so unpredictable it is draining.

I also like a routine and not a person who deals with change very well even though I do enjoy having the family living here

How has your mother taken the change? Does she enjoy all the extra activity? Friday here in Spain has been really hot, and as it's Easter week there are so many people about, the place is bustling.

@Marilynda1225 That's good, and at least she can still have her privacy if she wants it.

My mom is dealing with the change much better than I had anticipated. She likes having more activity in the house but also the freedom to close her door when things get too loud or busy

I know lots of things change when families and generations move in together - I'm sure it's a pretty active household right now!! Today, as it is the last few days of Spring Break for the kids, we will be going to a train museum and the zoo!

We had a meeting at the bank this morning, which I wasn't feeling up to but had to go. Either a cold or allergies and I feel like 'ugh'...

I am taking a much needed break at mum's place. Reading, eating and sleeping, and not worrying about my kids, who are happy to be running around the house with their grandparents. FEEELING BLESSED

Just having another cup of coffee and trying to decide what to do today. Unpredictable is not a bad thing at least you are no longer bored.

That will what will happen to my sister who was on her own since the last 15 years. Her 'prodigal; son has come to settle with her with his wife. She is all ga ga over it. But little does she realise how she would have to adjust to their way of life and not them following hers.

I can imagine that you'll need some time to establish a new routine. We had a very busy day yesterday, we drove up to our son's place and he and my husband worked on some things in his kitchen, they are renovating it.

I hope that you will be able to get your regular life back. It must be quite "too busy now" for you.

I am enjoying having them here and I'm trying to find my groove (as you say), I'm sure it will happen and I'll forget what life was like when it was just my mom and me

My kids will be home today and tomorrow, looking forward to the laughter that will happen when they get together and with their dogs. Your house must be busting with laughter too. Happy Easter.

At 8:30 AM, it is pretty quiet and rainy here. I don't work today, but will go to yoga and maybe play some ping pong later.

@Marilynda1225 That I did. I shot pool for an hour and a half and played a lot of ping pong for nearly two hours.

When my daughter's and granddaughter lived with us, the house was always buzzing with activity. I loved watching my little granddaughter go through the different stages of infancy. It was great. Now that they have moved into a place of their own, it is really quiet. I went shopping today with a friend. Goodwill and Walmart were the places we shopped. Found some good bargains too. Now I should tidy up the house before the hubby gets home. He is working late so I should be able to get it done before he gets here.

Young people bring life to your home. I really miss my son and his fiance who decided to find their own flat. It is so quiet now but I am having the baby over Easter and cannot wait to be really busy again.

I'm sure your quiet life has changed, but for the better. You'll soon find a routine. Meanwhile, enjoy the fun with your family!
