Deflated, I am Out of Gas!

United States
March 26, 2016 8:55am CST
Hubby requested that I make breakfast for the two of us. So I pulled out the cast iron griddle, tossed some sausages in a pan, and whipped up a batch of pancakes. When I finished stirring the batter, I noticed that the familiar smell of sausage wasn't filling the air. Neither was the sound of it sizzling in the pan. Yup, ran out of gas. Called the gas man and requested a delivery for today. If I don't get a tank, I'll end up cooking dinner on the gas grill tomorrow. Dang nabbit.

It ruins the romantic moment. I think grilling can ignite a special bonding. Keeps smiling my friend! Cheer up!

I use the grill quite often. Was considering cooking a ham on it tomorrow so I could utilize the oven for a chicken.

I had a nagging suspicion that I was nearing the bottom of the tank. I was able to prepare dinner last night. When the tank nears empty there is a slight odor. My husband asked if I left the stove on. I hadn't. Should have called yesterday.

@Jessicalynnt There is not a gauge. I tried tapping on the side, but never figured out how to tell when it was low.

@ElusiveButterfly is there a gauge? I'd have to have something like that. I remember dad smacking the tank with his hand as a kid, he swore he knew when it was low based on sound

Sounds like someone isn't watching their propane tank close enough. Oh well you can always find a place to have a meal.

I am having my 4 children and their spouses over for dinner tomorrow. That isn't an option. If all else fails I will use my gas grill to prepare the meal.

It is times like these when I wish I had at least a toaster oven. Had one and got rid of it. Never used it. UGH

I have an electric skillet that I dragged out from the depths of the cupboard. It was dusty so I washed it off. First I cooked the sausages, cleaned it and proceeded to make the pancakes. Chocolate chip for the hubby, plain for me.

It's always somethin Elusive Butterfly! With me, it's my gas grill that runs out of gas. I have some meat on the grill and then it runs out of gas part way through the cooking process.

That usually happens when we are having guests over for dinner. Hubby grabs the tank and runs to the local store to exchange it for another. He has me cooking again in no time.

I do not have this problem for nearly a decade. Now we use the piped gas, so we will never run out of gas. I think you might as well get 2 tanks so that you have a spare tank of gas. If you run out of gas during the Christmas week, that will be disastrous.

The tanks I had lasted over a year. I should be good for quite a while. Warmer weather will be here soon and I will use my grill to cook meals.

Here in our country we are permitted to keep 2 cylinders so that our pancakes are guaranteed (lol)

That's awful! Aren't they supposed to refill automatically, or have you been whipping up too many storms in the kitchen this month?

We have to call for delivery. It is a private company. He usually is pretty good with delivering on demand. I have done quite a bit of cooking and baking this month and in the past few months too. I am surprised I haven't run out of gas before now.
