Do you know how to swim? At what age did you learn? If you can't swim and you think you are too old to learn this skill then you are wrong. While it is true that kids learn swimming easily, it does not mean that once you are old already you won't learn anymore.
A swimming instructor said he has been teaching people of all ages and her oldest pupil was an 87 year old blind lady. Isn't this inspiring!

It was my brother who taught me how to float when I was 10 years old. From then on I just tried to imitate others in making swimming strokes. I could snorkel and I enjoy swimming at the pool and the beach without having any proper educational training in swimming. My son, on the other hand, had a proper education and loves to compete with me in free style swimming.

@annierose You are right in order to learn it has to be every day or at least regularly. But I think we you know already hoe to float, it will be easier for you to learn how to swim already. Maybe you need to be thrown to the water also lol!

My brother taught me how to float too but I think that in order for me to know how to swim, we have to do it everyday. When he got married, he wasn't able to teach me on how to swim. He has a funny story about swimming. He said that he was able to learn how to swim when the people teaching him threw him on the water and there was no choice left but to learn to swim.

I can swim. I learned it when my cousin pushes me to the river aged 10. He can't wait for me to plunge the water. It wasn't intentionally, he was at my back and patients detested him. Thus he pushed me forward to take the opportunity to swim.

I wish to meet this teacher hoping he would help me swim despite of my ear problems. I had my chance back in the elementary, but I was too afraid to stay inside the water. If i hadn't gone out, i could have been swimming right now.

So the first thing you have to overcome is your fear, otherwise you won't learn swimming. I believe a good instructor will truly help you.

@salonga yes, and the 'lidlid'/'is-isu' or in Iloco dialect, the stone that can remove the dirt from our body. But I must still be fully clothed, right?

That is great to know! Thanks for giving me a hope on that. Most of my friends who know to swim are those living beside the rivers or seas and I really envy their ability to play under the water. I know that swimming in a good form of exercise too. I would like to learn it in the near future.

@salonga I am happy that I am in perfect health except from the pain in my back. Do you have any fear of drowning when you were just practicing on swimming?

@salonga I learnt it under a trainer. He once took me to the deep and as he was talking to me he just me without notice. I went right down and then come up. He said that if I did that that means I know how to swim. But no thanks I said I am happy in the children's pool. But after my accident those moves are not good for my spine. I used to do free style.

My oldest sister enrolled me in a swimming summer class when i was still very small. I enjoyed swimming but i was not very good but now i am afraid to go swimming in the beach. I hate having sunburned skin now. I used to suffer severe sunburned skin on my back and face after swimming in the beach.

@mammots The beach has always been inviting but i can't really enjoy when the sun is up and hot. But in the early morning, it is when the beach is at its peak, it is so serene and so beautiful especially when the sun starts to rise. I also love watching the sunset.

That's great. Despite the age and disability, she's still motivated to learn how to swim. Amazing.
I learned how to swim when I was in elementary school days. I'm not really sure at what age exactly but I learned because of our constant summer outing back then. Among my siblings, I was the one who learned first. I can swim no matter how deep the water is. I can swim fast and can compete with my friends but not fast enough to join a swimming team.
Learning how to swim is an advantage especially on emergencies.

I have not gone for any proper swimming classes, but I always wanted to learn how to swim, so I asked my friends to teach me whenever there were chances for us to go to the swimming pool. That's when I was about 17 or 18 years old. Now, I can at least swim a little bit without drowning, and I really enjoy the feeling of swimming, it's so relaxing and comfortable.
Yes, I think we can just learn it at any age. It's never too old!

I've been able to swim since I can remember. I think my mom started lessons with us around 3 or 4. My sister was an absolute fish, she could swim rings around most of the kids her age by 5. She started swimming competitively about 10 and continued to swim competitively until she was out of high school.
