My Imaginary Friend

I am a crochet designer/artist and created a doll to be the crochet representation of myself. Unfortunately, little Maddy has turned out to have a personality of her own. She's much more extroverted than I am and I have to keep a close eye on her to save her from herself. I like to tell stories about her adventures in a sort of graphic novel type of way on my website. I call them cro-toons™ (crocheted cartoons). Is this acceptable behavior on myLot? What to do with a curious crocheted doll these days?

Personally I prefer to knit than to crochet, and I only do easy work that doesn't require much concentration. I really admire what you're doing and look forward to reading more about Maddy.

@madcrochetlab I'll be watching out for her. I read your other posts too, but didn't comment because it's really late and I need to finish off, otherwise I'll get no sleep.

Thank you @Gina145. I do a little knitting too, but I prefer crochet for most of the things I make so I know what you mean because I like my knitting to be easy and repetitive - it's relaxing that way. :) There will be more Maddy to come. And other characters too! :)

Thank you so much! Even though I've crocheted for years, it still can be a lot of work to design and create, but I do admit that it IS rewarding work when I achieve what I set out to create. :)

You are definitely a writer at heart. Many authors say that their hero or heroine becomes a distinct person and becomes more famous than them. Think Sherlock Holmes. I think many people know about him rather than his author.

Thank you so much for the compliment! I do think my little character would be much better with fame than I myself would be. And I would not mind that at all. :)

Welcome to MyLot and thank your help in my post about the pictures. You are very talented, have you considered crocheting and selling these beauties? And yes, creative writing is acceptable here, as long as it isn't done to make money, as in selling the dolls. Of course if you have a website to sell these dolls, you can post the link on your profile.

@madcrochetlab That is great, and again as long as these are not written on other sites to make money, you can post them here. I'm looking forward to reading your cro-toons.

Thank you for your help as well. I do occasionally take commissions to create lookalike dolls for people but they are custom, time-consuming, and therefore not affordable for everyone. But I'd much rather focus on creating my characters and their stories and worlds so I can attempt to entertain myself and others with them. xoxo

I am thinking in your heart, you may wish to be like little Maddy. I like the term cro-toons, it's so perfectly matching your dolls. I also like what you call yourself - a crochet scientist, a mad one! Just let the little Maddy explore and go on her adventures in mylot!

I do admire Maddy's lack of inhibition, but I don't think I'll ever be as comfortable doing the things she does. But that's okay, I always have her to do it for me. LOL. Thank you for the kind words. I will continue letting her explore and document her adventures.

She was SUPPOSED to be the little crocheted version of me, but she turned out to be WAY more extroverted than I am. I'm just a quiet little old gal who likes a margarita every once in a while after a hard day of crocheting. ;)

Hi @Shavkat! - The photo at the top is one of her misbehaving as soon as I finished making her! She is "pole dancing" on my crochet hook! So fresh! ;)

Maddy, good to see you. I never dreamed of you joining mylot. I've found some ways to make pictures that might work better at tsu than my writing does, but I just don't have time for more than one place at a time. I'd almost gone back to see how you were doing recently, but I wasn't sure how easily I could fine you. Any links you provide on your discussions can't contain sites where you make money in any way. I'm sure you'll find a following here just as much as you had there. Are you still dong tsu too. Btw, I'm not sure how long it would have been for me to see you here, but I saw your name on my friend MorleyHunt's post since you paid her a visit recently.

So good to see you too, Marsha! I thought I'd give the site a try as I had just heard about it (I don't know why as it seems it's been on the internet almost as long as I have. haha). And thank you for the tips. I am glad you didn't look for me on tsu - I still have a profile there but am not active there any longer after certain incidents (happy to tell you privately but not in a comment). I'm enjoying the interaction here very much and they seem more genuine than elsewhere.

I do love to have a little fun and just so you know, this is about as racy as I'll allow her to get. I don't want her blaming me someday for not providing enough boundaries. LOL But you will see more of her antics, I'm sure.

Lol what a funny idea. I thought when you wrote you created this doll to be yourself that you are a stripper. Then upon reading further I assume this character took that on as her alter ego type thing. I love the nipple tassels lol.
