Still Cold - So I'm Crocheting Slippers!

It's still chilly here in our little valley, although the weather is supposed to be positively balmy by Thursday. I'm snuggled up under a blanket, and I've decided to crochet a pair of comfy slippers to warm my feet. So if I seem to be a little less active on MyLot today, it's likely because I'm curled up watching a movie, and trying to get those slippers made!

It's supposed to be in the 70s here today. But I can still feel the chill air on my feet as I type. I'm going to climb back into bed and grade a few papers before heading into my other job.

It does seem to take a couple of days to warm up, especially after damp weather.

That sounds like an excellent way to spend a dreary day. How are the slippers coming around? It was also and still is rainy and cold here. Ugh! Cant wait for the warmer weather.

@Ruby3881 that is super talented of you. How long does it typically take to complete?

It's a bit two steps forward, one step back. I couldn't find a single pattern I liked, so I'm piecing together a couple of patterns, and trying to adjust for size at the same time. It's tricky, but I've got the soles done at least!

@maezee No idea, as I've never made slippers before! When I have a fixed pattern I can knit a pair of socks in a couple of days, but crochet is much faster. So if I had a pattern that didn't need to be tweaked, it would probably be a day.

Nature is providing business for wool manufacturers and that is all I can see in this unnatural setting for many of you.

Ah, if only! It's just inexpensive acrylic yarn and not wool....

I watched Paper Towns earlier, and then took some time to help with schoolwork. Now I'm trying to get through Selfless.

I prefer knitting to crochet. I've never tried making slippers though.

@Ruby3881 I prefer knitting because when I crochet I have to watch every stitch I make, but with knitting I don't have to. I only knit while I'm watching television so that's important to me.

I used to be that way too, but these days I find crocheting easier on my hands

@Ruby3881 Don't they sell slippers for wide feet?

Yup! And as I have large feet, it's tough to buy a pair of slippers that fits.

@marlina Not here! We live in a very small town next to a small city. I can't even buy socks and underwear in the city here, let alone in our town. Every time we go to Walmart, for example, the only women's socks they have are ankle socks and very thin fashion socks. They have no ladies' sport socks or warm weather socks, even in winter.

I've only recently begun to crochet. I started knitting a few years back, but never really cared for the look of anything I'd tried to crochet. These days I'm more fond of crochet, but I do find when it comes to socks and such I prefer the knitted versions. So it's a bit of a challenge finding what I want in a crochet pattern! I'm sort or combining and tweaking a couple of patterns, and hoping I come up with a slipper that fits!

I've made some cute crochet booties for babies and toddlers. They're fun to do because they're fast.

I read your title too fast and though it said you were crocheting spiders! I scratched my head and looked again and am relieved to find you are making slippers because I can't see how spiders would help you stay warm. LOL. Will you post a pic of them when they are done? I'd love to see.

I might try to crochet a spider one day, but no, that wouldn't likely keep me warm
