Coloring Time!

Yesterday, I had taped paper all over my son's toy trunk, like they do on tables at his play group, so he could color and do something other than throw his toys, a tantrum, or be on the phone. One problem though, there were no crayons in the house! All the crayons he has been given he has broken, tried to eat, or lost. It really sucked because I was excited for him to color since he is old enough to really enjoy it.
Well today we went out and bought him some crayons which he was so excited about. These are not regular crayons though. I got him those crayons in plastic tubes that you have to twist like lipstick when the tip has been used up. I figure that way he can't just snap them in half willy nilly and if he bit the tip he couldn't keep eating it.
He had a blast coloring and I helped with some stuff. I didn't think he would really try to bite them, but he did. He bit the tip to the red crayon and immediately spit it out. Thank goodness crayons are non toxic now. I love coloring with him and encouraging him to make shapes, pictures, etc... on his own.
Do you color to keep busy? Do you make the kids color to keep busy? Do they eat crayons?

@IvySaysHi Its not for everyone. When I draw I really have to try and become creative so it takes brain power lol. So sometimes just mindless coloring does me good :-)

I think those crayons in a case are a great idea. You might want to try making some modeling clay too, so long as he doesn't eat too much. (You can make edible clay.)

When my kids were little we often colored together. The coloring books, crayons and markers were plentiful in our home. It was a pastime that we all enjoyed. They didn't eat the crayons, thankfully!
