I have a stray cat that I care for and during the winter or bad weather I wanted to make her a house to sleep in. well twice the house I made fell apart. one was a card board box and it got wet and deteriorated the next was a giant cardboard box but I took precautions to keep it from getting wet by covering it with plastic and wood but it rained rally heavy and it collapsed a little when the cat was inside. the next day i had to lift the box open so the cat could get out. I don't want to spend too much but does Lowes or ikea make a prefab cathouse that I could put together with some nails, screws, bolts and a Allen wrench lol

Almost anything which is relatively warm and dry and has an opening big enough for a cat will do. You could try a plastic barrel or water butt or a wooden crate on its side (and anchored with wood or stone so it doesn't blow around) with some old cloth or towelling inside. This sort of thing can often be picked up for free locally. If you wanted to buy something, maybe your local pet store has a small dog kennel or something similar.

Cats being cats, they will come to cardboard boxes. I actually have an old doghouse outside that I put towels in, and sometimes cats will go in there.
