We will not be seeing her starting next year.

And it makes me & my family sad. Although we expected this will happen. But, 6 years came & went too fast. She was barely 14 when she suddenly popped up by our gate & said she wants to work as our househelp. We were in need of one then but knowing her age, we refused, lest we face a case in Court. She insisted. She said she can't go home as she has no more home. She said her Mama left them for another man, her Papa resorted to excessive drinking. We did not believe her story. So, my dearly beloved asked her to go & convince an elder sibling to come with her to our house. She left. After a while, she came back with a boy who looked years older than she. The boy said he is her Kuya. My dearly beloved relayed to him our stand. He was so silent, just listening. Then, he said, "please allow my sister to stay with you, she doesn't want to come with me to Manila to find a future there." "If you will not accept her, where will she go?" I said, "ok, as long as she will continue with her studies while she is with us." The kuya happily agreed! That was 6 years ago. She finished high school then, lately, a 2-year course in Hotel & Restaurant Management. We were all very happy for this once a lanky & sickly-looking young girl, now a young beautiful & confident lady. And she's getting ready to go out of her shell & be in a better employment for a better future. God bless you, our dear Marife!

It was good that she ended up living with you that she was able to study and finished it. Not all people or helpers get lucky. Good luck to her.

She use to say we are her angels in disguise. Ha! Ha! Ha! But, we say it's the opposite. This girl has that lovely smile, even if she's beset with concerns in her studies. So, we helped her to the best we could. Until now, she is so humble but so determined. She wants to fly. I think it will be soon, praise God!

There is only one thing I say after reading your post, @KenhKnah . . . The Almighty should kiss away your ailment so that you could continue doing wonderful things in this world. You are so kind-hearted. so, is your husband! Did Marife find a job away from home? I wish her the best . . She surely is a wonderful young lady!

Oh! Am reading this comment of yours, my dear Julito, this very early morning. Am teary-eyed again. Why do you make me guffaw & cry too? You're so kind to me. I pray God will bless you with more happy years!

BTW, my dear Julito @antonbunot , Marife said she will not leave us so soon. In fact, she is also worried about me, who will take care of me after she leaves. I told her not to be thinking of any harm that may happen to me. I will manage. She smiled & said she will visit me, us, every now & then. Maybe she will leave after the Church wedding of our dearest daughter No. 1 come June 30.

Thank you, my friend. And, we were never wrong in sending her to school. She has a lot of dreams for her younger siblings. And now that she can work in a better-paying employment, I am sure she will be able to realize those dreams. We will just surely miss her.

i'm glad she was diligent in her studies so your money wasn't wasted (i'm assuming you shouldered it) does she still have contact with her parents and brother?

We're so amazed how she did it, juggling the laundry & her books at the same time! Accordingly, she was one of the top 10 in her elementary grades (& so we learned from her brother). So, she is really something when it comes to studies. No money wasted, my dear friend. Not even a penny! Yes, she still has contacts with her siblings. Sad to say, none from her Mama who now has a new family; neither from her Papa who hasn't sent a word of his whereabouts.

Thank you. It's history in our family, my dear Reine. Even when Mama was still alive, & we barely had extra food on our table, she used to help her cousins send their young children to school. Many of them graduated, found good jobs, raised families & never forget to say hi when they have a chance to come to our place, & say thank you again for our Mama"s kindness & generosity to them. My family is just continuing Mama's stand.

Thank you, my dear Ms. Bikolandia. Sending her to school was what I immediately had in mind, while talking with Marife & her Kuya, that day. I did not know that it was also what my dearly beloved had in mind. I don't know, but even if she was of a small build, I saw in her a gigantic dream. True enough, she has that, for her family.

Thank you, my dear nerdieeds! All we wanted is to help her realize her dreams. With her jovial nature & determination, God-willing, she'll have those, soon! BTW, I missed you too! Just logged-in again after few days of absence, or was it just hours? Can't recall. Signs of nearing the senior citizen years, my dear. And how are you? Haven't crossed paths, no po? How am I? Healthwise, not good. The cancer is back. So, am into treatments again. It's ok. This will be over soon then my Doc will again announce, "you're again cancer free!" And I will shout back, "yehey!"

We all have it, bb ko. Because that is what we should share to all. Our life on earth is never certain. At least, before we are called up there, we know we have done good to some of the people dear to us.

Opo, my dear Momma. Marife takes care of me well too. She prepares my food & drinks attentively. Oh, I will surely miss her tinolang manok & porridge! No, my dear Momma, we're not getting a new helper. Although my dearly beloved & the kids are afraid for me, as they'll leave me alone (after she leaves), I think I will manage. God-willing.

We'd been talking about that possibility, my dearest Manay. Marife said, if we did not accept her, maybe she's still on the streets, worse, met a bad fate. Gosh! We would have blamed ourselves if, later, heard about that! Anyway, the years passed so fast. Now, she's rearing to go to reach for her dreams!
