Many religions and sects of Christianity don't believe Jesus is God. To me, this is very serious. First of all, you would be worshiping two gods, when God said not to have any gods before Him (Exodus 20:3)
Also, by denying His deity, you're committing the one unforgivable sin.
To me, it really quite simple, God came to Earth as a man to show us how to live as well as how to die.
What would be the point for him to send His son? We're all His children. Jesus was the only perfect human being, only God could be a perfect human.

Does the New Testament speak of Jesus in terms of God? Yes, it does, and to explain that away as some Sectarians do, well, one has a fair amount to explain away:). What I say to every group about this, is that when we speak of Jesus divinity, we must be careful to go by what He has said for all that He said and not pick passages in isolation as so many Sectarian groups do-Jesus statement was that "God gave His only begotten son", that was Jesus statement and can not be denied in any meaningful way-but it is also clear that in John's Gospel, though Jesus is distinct from the Father, He also makes the claim of being One with the Father, thus identifying the life of Jesus with the Life of God "from now on you have known Him and have seen Him", headed up in Thomas confession "My Lord and My God", as Paul said "God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself". Furthermore, there are many Old Testament passages where God is speaking, and the New Testament quotes them and applies them to Jesus-Hebrews 1:10 is of special note-also of special note is when in the book of Revelation Jesus assertion of the Old Testament title of God "I am the First and the Last"...that is blatently a quote from the Old Testament and an assertion of Divine identity with the God of Israel.

@Drosophila It can also be explained in states of being a mother. I am also a grandmother, and a daughter. The three aren't the same yet, I'm still all three.

I always thought that the term "God" was a word used to describe the nature of a being.
the three states of "God" quoted in the bible are, father, son, and the spirit. while all three are "god" in nature, they also do not equal to each other. whilst this concept may warps the mind to start with.
It's not so difficult to relate to when you look at the states of "water".
Water also can have 3 states, ice, liquid, and gas. All three states are different and not equal to each other. But all 3 manifestations are "water" in terms of nature/property.
So to say Ice is not water.. seemed absurd.
That's erm how I've kinda explained it to myself. not sure if it makes sense.

It can be confusing to us adults, yet I've told children and they seem to have no problem with it.

Yes, and if you can't see, you're not looking.

@PrarieStyle "Father and I are One" is different from "Father and I are the same"
That's another question.

Well, the bible says Jesus is the Son of God. My late father was a human being. I am his son; so, I am also a human being. God is the father of Jesus; hence, he is God, too. He only descended to earth, born as human, to save us, humans, from the raging flames of hell! I just don't believe of the existence of hell though.

If we as Christians don't believe He is God, then we worship two gods and are guilty of blasphemy.
I believe Hell is separation from God for eternity.
